Poland’s New “Women’s Party” Goes Nude in Campaign
WARSAW, POLAND — Candidates from Poland’s newest political party appear in the buff on a poster recently released to promote their agenda.Seven candidates of the Women’s Party appear in the poster holding a sign that reads, “The party of women. Poland is a woman.”
The poster is making quite a splash in the conservative, predominantly Catholic country. The Women’s Party was founded by writer Manuela Gretkowska in response to the government making legal, safe abortions tougher to get in the already strict women’s healthcare system. The party most strongly backs equal wages for both sexes and public funding for birth control.
“This poster is intended to shatter stereotypes in the anachronistic world of politics, which is more often dominated by uncommunicative men with their black tie outfits,” Gretkowska said to the media. “We are beautiful, nude, proud. We are true and sincere, body and soul. This is not pornography, there is nothing to see in terms of sex, our faces are intelligent, concerned, proud.”
Unfortunately, getting naked isn’t enough. Polls in the country are showing that the Women’s Party has less than the required 5-percent support to get them into parliament.
