Pink Visual to Host Adult Industry ‘Content Protection Retreat’
YNOT – Tucson-based adult studio Pink Visual will host a two-day, adult-industry-focused “Content Protection Retreat” to address effective means of combating content piracy and protecting intellectual property rights.Scheduled to take place Oct. 17-19 in Tucson, the retreat will offer attendees consultation with attorneys and developers who are experts in intellectual property law and software-based solutions for protecting digital content.
“For too long, the industry has been in agreement that content piracy is a major problem, without taking collective steps to craft a solution,” said Pink Visual President Allison Vivas. “Our aim at this event is to translate our attendees’ expressed desire to protect their content into constructive action that actually furthers that goal.”
Titan Media General Counsel Gill Sperlein is among the cadre of legal experts expected to participate. Sperlein has initiated several successful copyright cases on behalf of Titan and said he plans to share what the company has learned.
Free Speech Coalition Executive Director Diane Duke also is expected to attend, as are representatives of the software company that serves as the exclusive technology provider for FSC’s Anti-Piracy Action Program.
“The Content Protection Retreat represents the best opportunity to date for major adult entertainment companies to come together as one and unite behind a strategic approach to combating content piracy,” Duke said. “FSC has worked hard to engage our membership in the anti-piracy fight, and the retreat is an opportunity to enlist more people in this important battle.”
Participation will be limited to 30 companies, each of which must own the rights to at least 2,000 adult videos (which may be episodes or scenes, not necessarily DVDs) in order to be eligible to attend.
Two major studios, Hustler and Gamma Entertainment, already have signed on to attend, and will relate their first-hand experience with the APAP program, Vivas said.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to have Hustler and Gamma on board for the CPR,” Vivas said. “Hustler and Larry Flynt are renowned as fighters for the common good of the adult entertainment industry, and they are a perfect example of what we’re looking for in collaborators in this important effort. Gamma brings a valuable perspective as well, representing several production companies and major porn star labels, with a combined total of over 8,000 titles.”
