Pink Visual Says Goodbye to Flash Video, Windows Media
YNOT – Pink Visual is transitioning away from Flash, Windows Media and other video formats and soon will rely solely on the H.264 codec as the root format for all of its subscription content, the studio announced Wednesday. To that end, the parent company has licensed H.264/AVC from MPEG LA, the entity that administers H.264. According to a Pink Visual spokesperson, the studio is among the first in the adult entertainment industry to license the codec — which is only appropriate, considering Pink Visual’s stalwart stance about intellectual property in general.
The decision to transition to the H.264 codec followed MPEG LA’s recent announcement that H.264 will remain royalty-free for use in presenting free content. Content owners intending to generate revenue, however, must license the technology.
“MPEG LA’s decision was a smart one, as it helps position H.264 as the codec of choice for the future,” Pink Visual opined in a statement. “For us, it reinforced that licensing for delivery of paid content was the right move, because MPEG LA’s decision helped secure the future relevance of H.264.”
Pink Visual makes use of H.264 on its line of mobile sites, including the company’s flagship mobile property, iPinkVisualPass.com. The mobile sites are owned and operated by Buffalo Holdings Ltd.
Pink Visual’s statement indicated the company will use H.264, embedded in a Flash player, as its primary video delivery mechanism. The solution is “better and easier to use than any other option currently on the market,” the statement noted.
