Pinedale Forum Regrets Show Timing, Venue Choice
PINEDALE, Wyo. – With much of the online adult entertainment industry heading to Tempe, Ariz., for the annual Phoenix Forum, the man behind the somewhat lesser-known Pinedale Forum in Wyoming admits he now finds himself rethinking the timing and location of his event.
“When I first scheduled the show, I thought late March would be ideal,” said Reggie Cheney, chief executive officer for Adult E-Vents Ltd. and organizer of The Pinedale Forum. “The only thing I could think of going on this time of year is college basketball, but I don’t think anybody watches the NCAA tournament anymore, really.
“Later, I found out about this ‘Phoenix Forum’ event — which is a total rip-off of my unique idea of holding porn trade shows in the Spring, obviously — and I was immediately concerned about them siphoning off my exhibitors, vendors and attendees.”
While some prospective attendees initially expressed interest in attending The Pinedale Forum, Cheney said he now believes the show’s venue might have given them pause.
“Everybody loves camping, so rather than just do the same old thing like everybody else and book some dumb, boring hotel, I secured luxurious group-tent accommodations at the Pinedale Campgrounds,” Cheney said. “Technically, our spot is a little over a mile away from the official campgrounds, mostly because of the campgrounds’ policy disallowing alcohol, lingerie and high heels, but it’s still a premium spot with a reasonably low mosquito population.”
Cheney said to make his event stand out in the crowded adult trade-show market, he pulled out all the stops in arranging major performing artists to provide live entertainment, prominent industry professionals to lead educational seminars and “the very best keynote speakers available.”
“The original plan was to book Vanilla Ice as our headliner, but due to his ongoing legal troubles, it wasn’t possible for him to make it, unfortunately,” Cheney explained. “We got the next best thing, though: The very best Vanilla Ice imitator the Philippines has to offer — none other than Manila Ice himself.”
Seminars for The Pinedale Forum include practical business sessions like “Generating Traffic via Willful Content Piracy,” a content production discussion called “10 States that Can’t Afford to Enforce OSHA Regulations” and the in-depth legal discussion “Fundamentals of Adult Entertainment Law: How to Retain a Member of this Panel.”
Cheney noted the legal panel has 17 attorney participants, but he has yet to locate a willing moderator.
“It’s going to be a challenge to keep in line so many prominent shysters,” Cheney said, “but they’re going to have a full 45 minutes to work with, so I’m sure it will be a very detailed and information-packed session.”
The Pinedale Forum will feature “two distinguished keynote speakers of impeccable credentials,” Cheney said.
Thursday, March 26, Stephan Hershey of Garish Entertainment will first present himself with the Adult Industry Visionary Genius of the Millennium Lifetime Achievement Award, then offer his brief four-hour take on what makes him such a leader, innovator and generally high-class individual and how much it will benefit your company to fully appreciate his unrivaled excellence.
Saturday afternoon, March 27, The Pinedale Forum will close its official pre-party business agenda with a keynote delivered by the successful and iconoclastic adult webmaster “XXX Bill,” who told YNOT he plans to arrive one hour late and shit-faced drunk, regurgitate undigested Jägermeister onto the podium, flash the audience his middle finger, urinate on a nearby model and then post a video of the whole thing on his blog.
Naturally, no adult trade show would be complete without a slate of potentially wild parties, and Cheney said the 2015 Pinedale Forum will be no exception.
“Pinedale is a thriving metropolis with at least one bar, I think,” Cheney said. “If not, I’ve already lined up 200 cases of Keystone Light and 14 bottles of something I’m pretty sure is vodka, or possibly gin. It’s a clear liquid with quite a kick, at any rate. If this stuff doesn’t get the party started both quickly and right, nothing will.”
Despite the obstacles in its path, Cheney said he’s still “very enthusiastic” this year’s Pinedale Forum will be an “enormous, unmitigated, productive success,” but he declined to provide YNOT with an estimated number of attendees.
“Due to the open-air nature of our venue and the organic structure of the forum, it really can’t sell out,” Cheney explained. “So I don’t want to discourage anybody by revealing the truly massive number of companies and individual webmasters who have reserved tent space. Plus, beyond the central tents, there are several nearby patches of earth that are almost flat and relatively free of sharp rocks, so we still have room for plenty more folks.”
