Penthouse Aims for 2nd Quarter 3D TV Channel Launch
YNOT – Penthouse, a division of Boca Raton, Fla.-based FriendFinder Networks, expects to launch what it believes will be the world’s first 3D television channel during the second quarter of 2011.
To be called (what else?) the Penthouse 3D Channel, the premium cable TV offering will complement the brand’s current Penthouse HD Channel lineup and is aimed at the same 30-plus platforms in more than 15 countries, according to a company statement.
“Now, more than ever, the viewer will have choices to enjoy and explore all versions of Penthouse content in conjunction with the growing range of available cutting-edge technologies,” the statement noted.
The new channel is expected to feature new, original adult-oriented programming each month, all of it shot in native high-definition and 3D formats.
“We started shooting in 3D this past summer, and have significantly invested to perfect 3D production quality,” said FriendFinder Networks Chief Executive Officer Marc Bell. “Consumer excitement for 3D content is high, and Penthouse is the one studio that can rely on its broad expertise to deliver 3D in a manner unmatched by any other branded entertainment company.”
The company’s announcement coincided with the 2011 AVN Adult Entertainment Expo and the annual Consumer Electronics Show, where a record number of 3D-ready televisions and accoutrements were exhibited.
