Pennsylvania Town Passes New Adult Ordinance
GREENE TOWNSHIP, PA — The Greene Township, PA supervisors unanimously passed a new ordinance yesterday regulating how adult businesses can conduct themselves.Effective today, adult-oriented businesses there can only be open between 4:00pm and midnight, and must be completely closed on Sundays. All adult businesses must also be located 1,000 feet from schools, parks and “religious buildings,” and 800 feet from any residence.
The ordinance has been hotly debated by locals, nearly all of whom want the ordinances to be as restrictive as possible. Locals expressed particular worry about adult businesses being able to be open in the evening.
“I think that encourages criminal activity in our township rather than discourages it,” said resident Marita Wenner to the local media. She suggested that in the ordinance, adult businesses should be limited to operating during the day.
Solicitor Jeffrey Treat, Supervisor Chairwoman Mary Ann Hubbard and Vice Chairman Edward Simon all explained the hours of operation were chosen to help avoid businesses being open when students are returning home from school.
Vocal township residents first demanded the ordinance in June, amid rumors that a fellow resident planned to open a strip club.
