One-Night Stands Not Out of the Ordinary
YNOT – More than half of Americans have experienced a one-night stand, according to the results of Adam & Eve’s latest online poll.
The web-based poll, conducted by an independent third party as part of the Hillsboro, N.C.-based adult products company’s continuing investigation of sexuality, sampled 1,000 Americans age 18 and older.
Among the results:
- 58.1 percent of respondents admitted to taking part in a “no-strings-attached sexual encounter.
- 79 percent of the one-night-stand participants were male.
- 21 percent of the participants were female.
Adam & Eve did not reveal whether sexual orientation was an issue in any of the trysts or whether the survey sample included many more men than women, leaving open questions about the disparity in percentages between men and women.
Dr. Kat Van Kirk, Adam & Eve’s resident sexpert, said the number of affirmative answers to the question were higher than she anticipated, though not alarmingly so.
“There are many reasons people choose to have a one-night stand, from exploring one’s sexuality to a random hook-up outside a relationship,” she said. “As long as both partners have the same expectations, a one-night stand can be a positive release of sexual energy. Of course, safety is always a top priority.”
Adam & Eve advocates the use of condoms in casual sexual encounters.
“Condoms are essential for safe sex,” the company notes on its website.
