On the Road with Jason Sparks
By Peter Berton
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Having re-launched his website recently, gay adult performer, producer and director Jason Sparks is touring the U.S., looking for fresh, new talent to feature. It’s a busy life, but one Sparks loves — in no small part due to the performers he’s discovered over the years.
“The list of big stars I have discovered is long,” he told YNOT.com. “A few of the notables are Brandon Lewis, Brian Bonds, Connor Patricks, Tanner Wayne, Zack Taylor, Duncan Black, Logan Vaughn, Chase Austin, Garrett Cooper, Damon Archer and Adam Rhodes. I found most of them through the model searches I do when traveling nationwide.”
We wanted to know more.
YNOT: How did you get into porn?
Jason Sparks: After graduating from Notre Dame and doing the corporate thing for a few years, I met a porn star while visiting New York City. We dated for about a year. During that time, I was presented with the opportunity to appear in porn with him in a shoot for Hot House Entertainment. I jumped at the opportunity to film my first scene for such an amazing studio.
A few months later, I did a scene for Lucas Entertainment while in New York visiting my boyfriend. After that I was hooked, and the rest is history.
What was your first shoot like?
I was scared shitless! I could not stop shaking for the first hour. Luckily, the guys at Hot House made me feel comfortable and everything went amazingly.
How has your career progressed since then?
After filming for numerous studios for my first few years in porn, Michael Lucas offered me the opportunity to be production manager for his Atlanta shoots. That experience gave me the confidence to open up my own porn studio — although, if I had known how much work it was going to be running my own porn studio, I might have just stayed in my engineering job.
But I do love what I do, and I am happy I decided to make the plunge.
You do a lot of talent-spotting for your JasonSparksLive.com site. Why?
Finding new talent is a 24/7 job. I spend a ton of time looking for new models. About 90 percent of the people I interview I do not end up filming.
I usually look for guys whom I feel have a future in porn. If a model I discover does well in porn, I will get credit for “discovering” him — and that is my reward.
Clearly, you’re a very busy man. What other business ventures are you into?
Right now, porn is my life. I do not have time for anything else.
What’s the funniest porn scene you’ve ever filmed?
Before each scene, I do a model interview. I post the interviews on the website at the beginning of each scene. Sometimes the bloopers from the model interviews can be better than the actual scenes.
