Oculus Quest – Experience ‘Whatever You Want’ …Eventually
San Jose, CA – Last week, during Facebook’s Oculus Connect 5 (OC5) event, Mark Zuckerberg handed out a whole lot of “new” and “interesting” “facts” about Oculus Quest.
First mentioned in 2017 at Oculus Connect 4, Quest is being hyped as the “next era of VR gaming” – an all-in-one system that will launch in Spring 2019. Offering six degrees of freedom and touch controllers, Oculus Quest will make it easy to jump right into the action — with no PC, no wires and no external sensors. Eventually.
Quest’s touted capabilites are somewhat similar to the competition available on the market – think the Lenovo Mirage Solo or Vive Focus. The significant difference, however, is the offering of head and hands tracking, all thanks to an inside-out tracking system called Oculus Insight.
Occulus Insight is based on cameras integrated in the front panel of the device. The system uses four wide-angle sensors and computer vision algorithms to track users’ exact position in real time without external sensors. Allegedly, this gives users a greater sense of immersion, presence and mobility, plus the ability to go beyond room-scale. According to Oculus, “it’s easy to setup and experience whenever you want” – and that is the part of this announcement that adult entertainment companies may find especially interesting.
VR porn companies must make sure that their virtual reality porn experiences support all the newest VR technologies. Tech in 2019 will be no different. Oculus goggles are likely to be a bestseller when they release next spring, and porn will be ready.
“Even though our list of supported VR goggles is already quite impressive, we plan on adding the Oculus Quest VR visor to our selection and we are already thinking about the capabilities of incredible Oculus Insight technology for our VR porn films,” said VR Bangers’ CEO Daniel Abramovich.
“We have just started working on providing the support for them and getting a pair for our exclusive tests, so by the time they will show up, our visitors and members will be able to use them to watch our immersive VR porn videos!” Abramovich enthused.
The full specifications of Oculus Quest goggles are not known yet. The headset is allegedly powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC and will be equipped with “top-class optics” similar to those found in the Oculus Go. Display resolution is promised to be 1600 × 1440 for each eye running at 72 fps. The device will also have a built-in audio system and will be sold in a set with Oculus Touch motion controllers and 64 GB of built-in memory — all for US $399.
We shall see.
