New York Times Profiles a Now-Holy Rod Fontana
OAK PARK, CA — Sunday’s New York Times included a profile of former adult performer/director Rod Fontana, now known by his birth name Ronald Boyer. Boyer captured the Times’ attention by making the decision to become an Episcopalian priest after 30 years in the adult industry starring in such Christ-like productions as Filmco’s Two Wongs Make A White, multiple editions of Legend’s Toss My Salad series and nearly every Kick Ass 5 Guy Cream Pie production.Star of more than 800 adult movies and director of almost 200 adult productions, Boyer now expresses regret for his choice to be in the profession that paid his bills for years, saying, “”I could go back and do it again, but I don’t think I would. I had a passion for that. I put it there. Now I’ve channeled my passion to a different place.”
Boyer now preaches that pornography is a “sin” but hedges that by saying that “Jesus could have commented on that. He didn’t.”
As late as January of this year, Boyer was still performing in adult productions, but with reluctance. “My mind’s not there,” Boyer is quoted as saying after fucking a girl on video.
His path to the church is chronicled by Times writer Sharon Waxman who notes the near-death of Boyer’s child to a staph infection as a pivotal force behind his conversion, along with his teen years as a Southern Baptist who occasionally preached the word.
Boyer, married to now-retired performer Liza Harper, is years away from becoming a priest. He is currently training to become a deacon and still needs to serve two years in a seminary after that, assuming he’s approved by the local diocese bishop.
