New Portal Wants to Develop ‘Higher Standard for Porn’
LAS VEGAS – Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: An adult entertainment company intends “to develop a higher standard for porn … and restore consumer confidence.”
That’s the stated mission of a yet-to-be-launched network helmed by some adult industry insiders who have been around since the internet was a pup. Called MyPorn.com, the network is not expected to launch in beta form until the second quarter of 2014, but according to pre-launch publicity, “the network is being built to be a seamless connection that starts from the moment a user finds a free video or gallery through the evolution of becoming a loyal user and a paying customer.”
The project was conceived by serial adult internet entrepreneur Rick Muenyong, who also founded news and information portal YNOT.com and adult website review metropolis TheBestPorn.com. The Best Porn and My Porn are subsidiaries of Muenyong’s Ranks.com Inc. (Muenyong sold YNOT, which he founded in 1997 at the age of 19, in 1999 as part of a bid to leave adult for the domain-name-speculation game.)
“I’m just excited and grateful to develop something I believe in this much,” he said of My Porn. “This is a lot of fun, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. The status quo isn’t working. Let’s re-master the art of an honest sale. New products and innovation will naturally follow.”
According to Ranks.com spokesperson Vegas Ken, “Our mission with MyPorn.com is to develop a higher standard for adult entertainment, reward its producers and restore consumer confidence. We wanted to do something bold and out of the box. At a time when the industry is struggling with lower profits [and] a lack of innovation, and with consumer trust at an all-time low, we wanted to build a network of sites to buck the trends.”
The network, which aspires to “brand the free content to the sites, empower consumers with tools to follow [and] interact with their favorites, educate them with honest reviews and trust reports, and eventually convert the sale while building long-term loyalty,” seeks content submissions from consumers and partnerships with industry insiders.
