New Jersey Democratic Phone Line Turns Truly Blue
NEWTON, NJ — New Jersey voters know that the Democratic party tends to be more socially tolerant than its major competition – but a misprint in a telephone book led them to think the party had truly gone deep into liberal territory. Callers attempting to reach the Sussex County Democratic Committee using the phone number listed in the Embarq white pages were answered by an especially sultry voice when the phone was answered.
The voice belonged to a woman who may or may not be a registered Democrat – but absolutely worked for a phone sex line.
Glenn Lewis, representative for Embarq, explained to The New Jersey Herald of Newton that the last three digits of the committee’s phone number managed to become transposed, thus resulting in far steamer conversations than originally anticipated.
Embarq Yellow page listings of the committee’s 1-800 number were correct, and information listed with Embarq’s directory assistance database have been updated.
