New Anti-Piracy Tool Analyzes Tube Site Content
CHATSWORTH, Calif. – Nemesis is the name ancient Greeks gave to the spirit of divine retribution for hubris and evil deeds. Usually depicted as a vengeful female warrior, she was thought to be particularly hard on those who enjoyed undeserved good fortune.
Takedown Piracy chose the name Nemesis for its latest anti-piracy tool, designed to analyze tube sites and pinpoint videos that may embody copyright infringement.
“The goddess Nemesis carried out retribution against those who committed evil deeds and received undeserved good fortune,” said Takedown Piracy owner Nate Glass. “Digital pirates are exactly that — people who profit off the work of others. Nemesis and Takedown Piracy are coming to get them, and we have already found a ton of movies which may have otherwise gone undetected.
“We’ve already seen several prolific pirate uploaders ‘retire’ or stop uploading movies altogether,” he continued. “We’ve been able to get others kicked off the sites by showing they are repeat infringers.”
According to Glass, many of the offending end-user accounts were used for financial gain in addition to uploading free content.
“A lot of uploaders use stolen content as a way to promote their own businesses,” he opined. “We’re more than happy to dish out justice and put these guys out of business.”
Nemesis joins other tools including Aikido 2.0 and Search Clean in the Takedown Piracy arsenal. Aikido uses a PHP script to examine large content-aggregation sites. Glass described Search Clean as “an advanced [search engine optimization] program” capable of spotting infringements on search engines. Altogether, the company tracks nine different content piracy vectors.
