Netflix Picks Up ‘Hot Girls Wanted’
LOS GATOS, Calif. – Hot Girls Wanted, a documentary film about the making of amateur porn, has been roundly criticized by the adult entertainment industry for what the industry calls a skewed perspective and blatant agenda-pandering. Despite a snub at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival where it premiered, Hot Girls has generated beaucoup media buzz.
That may be the reason Netflix snapped up the property so quickly. Hot Girls Wanted already is available for streaming on the Netflix platform and is expected to hit DVD later this year.
“Netflix is the ideal partner for us; not only do they understand this film but they’re the perfect platform to reach the many people who need to see it,” producer Rashida Jones said, according to a prepared statement. “Netflix shares our passion for sharing a story that no one wants to talk about but that needs to be discussed.”
Directed by Jill Bauer and Ronna Gradus, Hot Girls Wanted purports to follow several barely 18 women as they try to make a career in porn. The producer and directors claim the film exposes vast abuse of naiveté within the amateur segment of adult entertainment.
“Jill and Ronna have exposed a shocking world of hope and heartbreak,” Erik Barmack, Netflix vice president of global independent content, noted in a prepared statement announcing the acquisition. “The filmmakers gained unprecedented access into a world never documented until now, and we are proud to bring their unflinching work to a global audience.”
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
