National Serviceman’s Elevator Bikini Exhibitionism Poorly Received
SINGAPORE — It’s hard to know what 21-year-old Tan Wen Zhong was thinking when he got onto the elevator bright and early one morning wearing a pink bikini – but it probably wasn’t how much he’d like to spend a day in jail and pay a $7,529 fine.Nonetheless, that’s precisely what the Singapore national serviceman wound up paying for the privilege of outraging the delicate sensibilities of one of his countrywomen.
According to the Singapore Straits TimesTan confessed to the five charges against him, including “fraudulent possession of women’s underwear” and “outraging the modesty” of the woman who was in the elevator with him that memorable and presumably warm day.
A raid of Tan’s home revealed the shocking fact that he had an impressive 46-piece collection of women’s underwear and bikinis, in addition to four pornographic videos.
Alas for Tan – who was completing his mandatory national service when his taste in clothing got him in trouble – this is not his first brush with the long arm of the law. Indeed, just last year he was accused of grabbing a 23-year-old woman’s ass. The year prior, he’d walked out of a shop without paying for a pair of sunglasses.
Tan’s attorneys counter that the young man was traumatized by his parents’ divorce when he was young.
Sure, but a pink bikini? In April? Society must have limits.
