Naked Attraction – Daily Dose of Nudity for the Masses
What’s always amusing is the mainstream’s anti-pornography stance coupled with their desperate desire to look at nudity.
Recently a series was launched on MAX that proves just this point.
The studio knows showing peeps in their birthday suit is money, so they took a risk and bought up six seasons of the popular British gameshow called Naked Attraction which gives viewers their daily dose of undress.
Here’s what happens.
One person gets to view six prospects’ bods little by little, their faces hidden to decide who their soulmate will be. So basically, Naked Attraction asks them to skip the clothes and personality and go right to the flesh – “dating in reverse!”
What makes it cringe-worthy is The Chooser has to dump one person each round based on bod alone and is tasked with saying WHY – i.e. what’s wrong with them that didn’t make the cut – eek! You really feel for the poor saps that get the “NO” immediately. Imagine the PTSD of knowing you’re the first person out of six who got the axe ‘cause your bod was the worst – I think I’d be terrified to ever get naked with another person again. Which brings me to the adult industry and their viewpoint on body types… wait a minute…
THERE IS NONE!
All are accepted, viewers just tune into whatever their fancy is and disregard the rest.
One point for adult!
Back to the show. In the end, The Chooser is left with two bods who then get to turn the tables and assess their bod. That leaves us with the final couple who allegedly goes off happily ever after on a clothed date.
It’s a clever concept, and all in good fun, but MAX still covers their a*s (unlike the contestants) with a pre-show warning: “The following is intended for mature audiences only. It contains full frontal nudity, coarse language, and graphic discussions about the human body. Viewer discretion is advised.”
Now that that’s out of the way, Naked Attraction tries to get around the titillating feel of the show by acting like they’re not glamorizing the nudity. Truth be told the lighting is beyond hideous… I wonder if anyone’s bits and parts look good under those bulbs? Whatever the case bad light or not, the point is people are naked! You know damn well viewers are tuning in for the reveal of boobs, butts, and nether regions whether the show attempts to downplay it or not.
Naked Attraction gets an audience because it IS titillating.
Two points for adult who takes “titillating” in natural stride and doesn’t try to sugarcoat it by throwing in some sex education and promotion of body positivity like Naked Attraction does. The show is also sure to include everyone’s favorite buzzword these days – diversity – i.e. different sexual orientations and body types are included to make it feel very “forward.”
Three points for adult! We’ve got diversity in spades and have for years!
I do think it’s great shows like this are getting airplay, so folks get a little more comfortable with seeing the human body and accepting that sex makes the world go around. With more pieces like Naked Attraction pushing the envelope, I do believe pornography has the chance to become more accepted and understood.
Bravo to MAX for taking a chance on such a controversial show!
