Mercedes Carrera Hits the Fundraising Trail
LOS ANGELES – From mid-December through mid-January, the adult entertainment industry typically slows to a crawl. For one performer, though, the end of 2014 and the beginning of 2015 have become a particularly busy time.
Carrera recently performed charity cam shows to benefit disabled gamer Big Brain, a gamer born with no lenses in his eyes. Big Brain is legally blind and needed special equipment to replace an out-of-date, 25-year-old device he requires to see. Despite a swirl of controversy having nothing to do with adult entertainment and everything to do with gamer politics, within 72 hours of starting her campaign, Carrera reached her fundraising goal and donated a Ruby XL HD reader to Big Brain.
“It was really wonderful to be able to raise the funds,” she said. “Between donations and funds from web-camming, we were easily able to quickly order the CCTV for Big Brain last week. He should be receiving it soon.
“I am so happy that I was able to support a genuine need for a disabled gamer in the community, and especially to provide a device which will be instrumental in his continuing his schooling,” Carrera continued. “I wish him all the best.”
On Jan., Carrera will host another charity cam show for her new non-profit, ThePornCharity.org. Performers Paisley Parker, Selma Sins, Morgan Lee and Holly Heart also have volunteered their time. Webcams.com will provide the platform and match donations. Mindgeek will provide social media assistance, and The Fine Young Capitalists are underwriting the show.
“I’m elated that my new effort, ThePornCharity.org, has been so well received and so excited that Webcams.com has been so supportive,” Carrera said. “It’s really been such a whirlwind effort, and we are determined to create an impactful event and scholarship fund to support youth in the STEM fields. As a STEM graduate, I know how hard it can be to juggle work and school, and we look forward to lightening the load for a motivated student.
“Additionally, The Fine Young Capitalists have been exceptionally supportive of the effort and gracious in their willingness to create a brand new project.”
