Men, Women Differ on Daily “Ogling Factor”
ROCHESTER, NY — Men spend an average of 43 minutes daily eyeing as many as 10 members of the opposite sex while women average less than half that ogling six men, according to a new study by the Kodak Lens Vision Centers.Employ a little basic multiplication and division, and it’s easy to see men between the ages of 18 and 50 consume almost 11 days annually engaging eye candy. Over the course of their ogling lifetimes, men give up 11 months and 11 days to the practice.
“Men are renowned for looking at women, but it’s interesting to see just how long they spend doing it,” said center spokesman Mark Ireland. “A year is a long time to spend with eyes fixed on the opposite sex.”
The survey of 3,000 people, divided equally among the genders, also discovered that not everyone is flattered by the attention. Twenty percent of women said even appreciative gazes embarrass them.
According to the survey, supermarkets are the most popular ogling venues among men. (And seriously: Who can overlook nice melons in the market?). Bars and nightclubs came in second. Among women, bars topped the list of eye-candy venues.
In addition to devoting vastly different amounts of time to the practice, men and women also differ on the anatomical portions they admire. For nearly half of men, a woman’s figure is key; the same proportion of women are more attracted to a man’s eyes.
One in 10 respondents said “roving eyes” had led to a break-up, but more than one-third admitted an appreciative look started their current relationship.
