Measure B to Take Center Stage at FSC Summit
YNOT – Despite opposition from a coalition of entities including the adult entertainment industry, three major political parties and several mainstream California media outlets, Measure B — officially known as the Safer Sex in the Adult Film Industry Act — received the approval of 56 percent of Los Angeles County voters on Tuesday.
Measure B, proposed and financed by charitable organization AIDS Healthcare Foundation, requires all workers on adult film sets to wear barrier protection, including condoms and dental dams. It also mandates porn filmmakers apply for permits and submit to routine inspections of their sets. Failure to comply with any provisions of the law will subject adult content producers to civil and criminal penalties.
The law undoubted will face legal challenges prior to it implementation.
As part of the adult industry’s response to the measure’s passage, trade association Free Speech Coalition has scheduled a special session about Measure B during the FSC Summit, set to take place Thursday in Los Angeles. The Measure B discussion will occur from noon to 1:30 p.m.
“Coming off of the momentum of the campaign, we must press forward and come together proactively to decide the next steps for adult industry,” FSC Chief Executive Diane Duke said. “We strongly encourage all industry members in Los Angeles to attend the Summit, if only for the special seminar on Measure B. This is a great opportunity for discussion and unity as we move to confront this challenge.”
Summit attendance is free of charge; registration may be accomplished online or beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday on-site. The first-of-its-kind, day-long event also will include seminars entitled World Markets, Sex & Politics, Diversification, the Legal Hot Seat and If I Knew Then What I Know Now.
Immediately following the day’s educational sessions, the annual FSC Awards will be presented during a gala cocktail reception.
The FSC Summit will take place at the Sofitel Hotel in West Hollywood, Calif. For more information, call 818-348-9373.
