Lubes, Homemade Porn Not Priorities for Most Americans
HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. – Recent surveys conducted for adult products retailer Adam & Eve indicate that while Americans enjoy a variety of sexual practices, lubricants and homemade sex tapes are not essential for most.
The company’s August survey, conducted by a third-party company on Adam & Eve’s behalf, indicated on 17 percent of Americans between the ages of 18 and 70 frequently use lubricants to enhance their lovemaking. Among the rest, 43 percent of men and women said they never use lubricants and 39 percent said lubes sometimes are part of their bedroom activities.
Age did not seem to be a factor, according to the data, although the most frequent lube users fell within the age range of 21-39, a company spokesperson said.
“I find it encouraging that young adults are adding lubricants to their sexual repertoire,” said Dr. Kat Van Kirk, Adam & Eve’s resident sexpert. “We all know that a good lubricant can enhance the sensation for both partners, but I would like to see that number go up for the 40-plus crowd as well.”
As for homemade sex tapes, Adam & Eve’s September survey discovered celebrities may be about the only Americans filming themselves in the sack. A whopping 84 percent of the 1,000 survey respondents indicated they have never filmed their “private moments.” Of those who admitted preserving their sexual romps on film, 60 percent said they saved the evidence to enjoy again.
“Many people find it exciting to watch themselves having sex,” Van Kirk said. “It’s an easy way to add some spice to a relationship, and it can add a new dimension to your lovemaking.”
Both surveys, conducted online, were part of an ongoing study of Americans’ sexual attitudes and practices.
