LONDON — London-based retailer Silicone Sex World recently reported that demand for its custom made dolls has increased dramatically. Six months ago, the firm was processing around two orders a week. Now it is selling five dolls a day – and they expect this figure to double in 2018.

According to Phelps, at one point Silicone Sex World may have spoken to twenty customers a day regarding the dolls. Today, the inquiry rate is dropping, but the order rate is increasing.

“Although the glamorous side of sex dolls is often spoken about, there is still a ways to go when it comes to the consumer awareness side,” Phelps shared.

Phelps explained that many customers have used drop-shipping companies or have ordered dolls from websites that are selling products illegal in the U.K. Those dolls are then seized by customs, and the purchaser can often expect a visit from the authorities.
