Lohan Out, Akerman In as Porn Star Linda Lovelace
YNOT – In a move that may not surprise many considering actress Lindsay Lohan’s recent problems, Director Matthew Wilder has passed on Lohan to portray Linda Lovelace in the upcoming biopic Inferno. Malin Akerman will star as the late porn queen instead.
Akerman, who recently starred in the blockbuster Watchmen (based on the graphic novel of the same name), may not have Lohan’s cachet, but she and the director have expressed excitement about the change.
The decision may have been less about acting chops and more about a hidden side of filmmaking: insurance.
“We stuck by [Lohan] very patiently for a long time with a lot of love and support,” the director recently said of the star’s very public battle with substance abuse. “The impossibility of insuring her and other issues have made it impossible for us to go forward.”
Lohan recently completed a two-week stint in jail followed by a further 22 days in a drug treatment program after violating probation on a drunk-driving and cocaine-possession charge that arose in 2007.
Inferno, a biography about late adult film superstar turned anti-pornography activist Lovelace, is to be based on Ordeal: An Autobiography by Lovelace and Mike McGrady. Considering Lovelace’s position as a figurehead for the anti-porn movement, it’s not surprising that many in the adult industry are reserving judgment about the film.
