Hi fellow adult Webmasters, my name is Frank and I am the owner of AffiliateCheaters.com, a website dedicated to reviewing good and bad affiliate programs. I feel it is important to alert our industry of its trustworthy affiliates and its crooks.
Why? Because it hurts our business if you have any bad experiences and think “Fuck the adult industry… they are all crooks!” It also hurts the honest programs from surfers who have had bad experiences, because they will think, “No way am I ever giving my credit card to an adult website any more or email address, etc.” He will tell his friends and they will tell their friends and so on. Get the picture?
I myself have been cheated as an adult Webmaster and I was trying to find a good website where I could report the program in question. I was searching the web from A-Z and found nothing really serious enough, so that is why I started AffiliateCheaters.com so that the good the bad and the ugly programs can be reported!
I will try to give you some advice regarding what to look out for when you select an affiliate program:
1. A simple and effective way to track someone down is to check WHOIS behind the website. You can check this here. By checking this there are a few things to watch out for. If the domain is registered for a year or less for example, this could raise some suspicion as a serious businessperson would be more likely to register their site for several years. I would also be weary if the email address is something like a Yahoo! or Hotmail account.
Another thing when checking the WHOIS, is to pay special attention to the address. I personally have had bad experiences with companies located in Russia and various Eastern European countries. That is not to say that there aren’t legitimate companies operating out of those countries – I’m just commenting on my experience. All that said though, the information in WHOIS doesn’t necessarily have to be correct. It is unfortunately easy to change this information.
2. If you are unsure about a program, ask another Webmaster that uses the program if he likes it. You can also ask us at AffiliateCheaters.com if we know about it.
3. It is VERY important to have a good affiliate program but you have to know if you are doing well and if the affiliate program is also doing well, but you have to play by the rules. If the program says don’t SPAM and you are spamming, you can be terminated. As well, the company can get hurt from your actions if they get reported to SpamCop, or the FTC, etc.
4. Another thing to look for is web design. If the site looks great and professional, then there is a good chance it’s a good affiliate because they have money for a good design, and in turn would have money to pay you. But beware, there are many good web designers out there (legitimate and fraudulent) who can make a great looking website in less then a day!
5. If the program uses CCBill, Netbilling or any other reputable third party e-Processors, chances are you won’t get cheated as these are external companies dealing with the surfer. Lets say you promote a program from and one of your visitors signs up for a trial. The company will handle the payment between you and the affiliate program after taking their share.
