Key Tips for #Insta N00bs
Instagram is easily one of the most popular and engaging social media apps around. It’s also one of the least adult friendly. But with over 200 million Instagrammers visiting at least one business profile per day, you need to find a way to make your presence known.
According to Lyfe Marketing, nearly 60 percent of Instagram users fall in the 18-19 age group. It’s important to know this because it points to the first key point to be mindful of when leveraging Insta: Know who is looking and tailor your content accordingly.
Going back to that whole business profile thing, you need to make sure you have one.
With a business profile, followers can visit your site and click on the contact button to get in touch with you. You also get access to Instagram’s analytics tools, which are very insightful and can easily create and publish Instagram ads without depending on advertising tools from Facebook (another enemy of the porn state).
Another tip: Partner with key, relevant influencers. No, I don’t mean pay the Kardashains to do a #ad with you. (Even if you could afford it, it’s not a good use of ad dollars.)
I mean find specific Insta users that connect with users you too want to connect with, and partner with them. If you have a wellness angle to your product, find a wellness guru. Leverage one of the highly influential performers or cam stars in the business for more relevant #ad dollars spent.
Not a good use of your ad dollars:
Such a potentially good use of your ad dollars: Janice Griffith currently has 419K Instagram followers and certainly has an industry-relevant audience.
Finally, use hashtags strategically. Yes, it’s fun to play with the tags — #whodoesntlikesass #orcleversnark #oranarrative #shouldIkeepgoing? But these tags are not commonly used, thus are not going to direct users to your posts.
A good stretegy is to find the middleground tags. If the invented example #cutedogs is used 20 million times, your post may get lost. It may stand out further, however, if you use the equally invented but illustrative alternate, #cutiedogs.
Pro tip: The days of putting a long string of hashtags in a post are over. You may still get away with putting some excess in your first comment; but truthfully, finding a balance within a few strategically selected tags it more effective.
So, go start that account and get to building. Today is the first day of the rest of 2018!
