Kansas Radio Station Fights Back Against Adult Censors
WICHITA, KS – Police officers in Wichita, Kansas last month raided an erotic dance club and arrested several dancers on charges ranging from indecent exposure to prostitution. The arrests seem to be part of an overall city strategy launched against the area’s adult entertainment businesses. Now a local Wichita radio station is fighting back by circulating a petition and launching a negative publicity campaign targeting the city’s mayor.Radio station KANR “Fly 92.7” morning host L.B. is asking local residents to sign a petition in protest of the city’s attempts to censor adult businesses. The popular radio personality has also been seen wearing a t-shirt with a crossed out picture of Mayor Mayans.
“They are going extremely too far,” said L.B. “Mayor Mayans needs to quit pushing his personal agenda and politics.”
Elizabeth Dutton, a dancer and a manger at Babes and Booze Cabaret, said she believes the petition will expose a lot of local support for adult businesses.
“I think the petition is just going to show there are other people that think differently and that’s okay. We just want to be able to operate our business,” said Dutton.
Mayor Mayans, however, says the goal isn’t to censor or eliminate adult businesses entirely, but to move them to another part of town.
“We’re not saying those places cannot exist, we’re just saying we don’t want them in that particular area which is our family oriented, our tourist areas. I think it impacts the city negatively,” said Mayans.
Mayor Mayans has contested the Babes and Booze Cabaret’s business license.
