K-Beech Video Helps VHS Die a Thousand Deaths
CHATSWORTH, CA – The days of the 8-track vs. cassette tape wars seem so long ago. Then came the Beta vs. VHS wars, which were followed by the vinyl vs. CD wars, and the DivX vs. DVD wars. They all seem so quaint today, what with High Definition and flat screen monitors and Video-on-Demand and all the other tech toys attracting so much of the world’s attention.Although VHS hasn’t breathed its last and will probably remain a popular duplication medium for the average American, the rattle in its throat is getting louder as an increasing number of retailers refuse to carry it, an increasing number of duplication labs are going out of business, and an increasing number of production companies are deciding not to carry it. K-Beech Video is one of the most recent adult companies to say goodbye to VHS.
According to Allen Gold, General Manager of Sales for Cherry Boxxx Pictures, one of five lines owned by K-Beech Video, Inc. and affected by the format change, the decision was the logical next step in the company’s progress.
“For us to continue to print boxes, there need to be minimums,” Gold said. “What we’re getting doesn’t justify printing them. Plus, the prices anyone with any VHS inventory is charging has just plummeted.”
Given that all future K-Beech titles will be shot exclusively in Hi Def, the move to DVD was inevitable. Although approximately 5000 pieces are still available in VHS, once those are gone there will be no more such releases from Baby Doll Pictures, Cherry Boxxx Pictures, Midnight, Erotic Angel, or Dreamland.
Those hoping to purchase one of the last of the VHS titles can contact Carolyn Ward, Head of Sales for Baby Doll Pictures, at 800-255-5923 ext. 104. Those seeking promotional materials can discuss the matter with Dominic at 818-727-9446 or via email at drxnla@aol.com.
