Jasmin: The Rebirth of the Erotic Massage
It is called “XXXperience … how a massage should be!” But the pages for this massage business at http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/SMIT3089/ are anything but XXX. Instead, the emphasis is on softcore sensuality; something not often found in today’s in-your-face adult industry. For instance, a deluxe massage session comes with “a full-body nude reverse erotic massage complete with body slides and company in the shower.” This means that you and your hostess get to soap each other up. Can this fun be taken further? Well, you can pay for a second girl to join you or bring your spouse for a Couple’s Massage. But “Do not ask your attendant for extra’s – we don’t offer them so save your breath – by doing so you will just annoy your attendant,” warns the XXXperience website.
Despite the rules, XXXperience’s clients seem pretty satisfied. “One word comes to mind; WOW,” writes one. “What really sets this place apart is the staff,” writes another. “Friendly, attractive, and most important, highly skilled.”
So how did “the original Temptress” Jasmin and her lovely assistants end up offering “erotic massage services” in frigid Ottawa, Canada; a staid government town where most restaurants close at 11:00 pm on weekends? To find out, YNOT.com decided to stop by to relieve a bit of … tension.
YNOT.com: First, please tell us a bit about yourself.
Jasmin: I moved to Ottawa for school in August of 2004, having worked in massage since 1999. Before I moved here, I did some research on the massage scene and was a bit disappointed: There was nothing here up to par (so to speak) or on the same level of the spa I had worked at before. So I decided to work out of my home; screening my clients before allowing them to come to my two bedroom apartment.
The level of service I offered was definitely unique in Ottawa and word spread very quickly. In the beginning I was lucky if I saw three to four clients a week. Now we average about 10 a day and we are still growing.
For the first eight months I was the only person working here. Eventually I hired another girl to work when I was in school. Eventually I moved out of my apartment and converted my bedroom into another massage room. Now I have eight girls working with me and I am currently looking for a new location: I want to open a Toronto style spa here in Ottawa – four to five rooms with a shower and sink in every room with three to four girls on shift.
YNOT.com: What is the difference between a regular massage and the kind your company offers?
Jasmin: Well, when I think of a regular massage, I think of going to an RMT or a day spa and being covered up, strictly by the book, clinical and only being touched (in a non-sexual way) on my arms, neck, back, legs and feet. However, the type of massages offered at our place encompasses sensuality, eroticism as well as a great full-body massage. The touch is personal and the connection with your attendant is genuine. Not to mention the fact that you and your super hot massage attendant soap each other up in the shower before the massage starts.
YNOT.com: What is your market niche? What kind of customers are you trying to reach?
Jasmin: Our clientele is primarily professional men between the ages of 30 – 60. These are men who respect and enjoy spending time and relaxing with a gorgeous and intelligent woman and who truly appreciate the fulfillment that can be found in the services we offer. These gentlemen are NOT looking for sex or blowjobs, only a great massage and some good clean naughty fun.
However, we also offer couples massages and erotic massage lessons in an attempt to appeal to a younger crowd – couples and women in their 20’s/30’s that want to explore different sides of their sexuality – I’m trying to break down the stereotype that sensual massages are for men only.
YNOT.com: You’ve gone to a lot of trouble to put forward a website that is erotic in nature, rather than blatantly sexual/adult. What was your thinking in taking this marketing approach?
Jasmin: You are right; the theme I wanted was one that portrayed a message of class and sensuality. I wanted a website that clearly delivered the message about what type of services we offer and don’t offer, but I also wanted to leave some things up to the imagination.
YNOT.com What services do you not offer your customers, and how do you get this message across to them?
Jasmin: Our place does not offer full service (sex) or oral sex. It’s mentioned a few times on the website, as well in our client code of conduct, and word-of-mouth primarily. There are tons of places in Ottawa that offer these types of extras if that is what one is looking for. However, I am trying to return a standard to the adult massage business; a standard that does not include escort type services — massage girls should not be treading on their territory.
YNOT.com: How do you ensure that your services stay legally “in the clear?”
Jasmin: I have added a few legal disclaimers to my website, I have my staff sign contracts and we offer all-inclusive pricing. I run a very discrete, clean and respectable business (compared to what else can be found out there).
YNOT.com: How do you deal with customers who get “over-excited” and end up having an orgasm? Is there a protocol to dealing with this?
Jasmin: Ummm, orgasms are wonderful things and they release powerful endorphins/chemicals that are good for your body, mind and spirit. We encourage everyone to have at least one a day. It’s a natural bodily response to being stimulated — sensual massage is the art of seduction through touch. It happens and it’s not a bad thing; there are far worse things like war and famine.
YNOT.com: You go to great lengths to protect your company; i.e. by not giving out your address on the Web, for instance. How serious a problem are stalkers and other such undesirables?
Jasmin: My rationale behind keeping the location private is done more out discretion and the need for privacy then it is out of fear of stalkers. We are a private studio, which means we are not open to the public; no one can just walk in off the street. However, we have been very lucky and have not had any serious problems with “undesirables.” I believe if you portray yourself in a certain light you will attract the corresponding clientele.
YNOT.com: Where do you find the workers you need to run the business?
Jasmin: If I had a dollar for every time I was asked this question! This is like asking Colonel Sanders the recipe for his chicken. It’s a trade secret, but I will say that I am very lucky I have the best and most attractive staff in Ottawa .
YNOT.com: You mentioned that you would like to open a Toronto-style spa. What exactly would this be like?
Jasmin: When I use that phrase I am referring to a large and very high-end spa. I envision four to five massage rooms with a shower and sink in every room, four to five massage attendants on shift, gorgeous furnishings; a place that just reeks of class and elegance. It’s in the works, you will just have to wait and see.
YNOT.com: Is this a profitable business model that can be followed in other cities?
Jasmin: Yes and no. Too many people in this business don’t have a clue on how to reach the top. Everything about their spa is just wrong; from the attitudes and beliefs that created it, to the ideas and demeanor running the day-to-day operations. For five years I worked in six different spas all over Ontario and Japan; I watched and observed and created my formula for success. In the past two-and-a-half years I have hit gold and I don’t plan on stopping until I have a spa in every major city across this country.
YNOT.com: Do you enjoy this job? Is it fun, or just a way of making a living?
Jasmin: I love this business and I’m really good at it; both the massaging aspects and the managerial/innovation side. I am out to change the way this business is perceived so it has become not just a job, but a passion for me. I am very lucky. However, I do have another side to me that I will also need to explore – and that is the side of me that will want to do something with my degree in law and human rights. If anyone has a cloning machine, give me a call.
