JAPAN — While the United States struggles to decide whether it loves High Definition DVD or Blu-ray format most, the tech loving Japanese have made up their minds: it’s Blu-ray all the way – and that includes erotic materials. Luckily for the Japanese, Blu-ray loves them, too.Access to the technology has come a long way since the convergence of the Consumer Electronics Show and the Adult Entertainment Expo, when Sony played coy with the domestic adult entertainment industry… but the changes can only be appreciated from within the land of hentai and cherry blossoms.

The Adult Treasure Expo 2007 in Chiba, Japan reported that Sony had softened its hard edge with regards to that Blu-ray loving nation and its passion for the digitally sensual. In addition to additional technical support for adult content producers, Sony is said to have sending Blu-ray equipment to a Taiwanese partner company express for producing adult titles on its To Do list.

Kiyotaka Konno, director of administration at Assist Corp., which authors and replicates DVDs for the Japanese adult industry, was unable to find anyone on the island to press titles, so looked to Taiwan for a solution. “The Taiwanese company was able to obtain a pressing machine from Sony and will start production in August,” he explained to IDG News Service.

Nonetheless, Sony is keeping its public face clean by pointing out that it still refuses to deal directly with adult content, although it has decided to support any producer that wants to use Blu-ray.

Three of the 10 Japanese titles currently available to the porn loving island nation on Blu-ray include Sex Vacation in Guam, JK, and Eroist. This compares to Perfect Slave Rin, the single title available on HD DVD. One producer plans to release at least one title per month on the newly accessible Blu-ray format. In the United States, only Vivid Entertainment Group’s Debbie Does Dallas… Again has met the new type of pressing machine, and it won’t be released for another few months.
