Island Authorities Plan to Arrest Porn Stars
SRI LANKA — Tea, coffee, cinnamon, rubber, sugar, coffee, indigo, and coconuts; appreciators of exotic flavors and practical products can purchase them and stimulate the Sri Lankan economy. Those hoping to sample some of the island country’s more erotic delights, however, are sold out of luck — and those who contribute to such entertainments may very well be doing time.According to the Daily Mirror, Sri Lanka’s president, Mahinda Rajapaksa, plans to not merely filter the nation’s internet connection in order to shield the tender eyes of his fellow citizens. He also has an ambitious plan to ensure that his nation’s employment options do not include porn performer.
At the president’s urging, the country’s Police Women’s and Children’s Bureau began scouring the internet for local adult actors and actresses in order to make their lives legally uncomfortable.
In an article that put quotation marks around any reference to the hunted as performers, the Mirror explained that 21 individuals have been identified as appearing in erotic video clips available online and that regardless of whether they did so willingly, all must be brought to something considered justice.
Buddika Balachandra indicated that his agency believes that the majority of men and women appearing in locally produced pornographic content do so willingly, but that all such content is obscene and inappropriate. Balachandra contends that some content has been procured without consent, primarily using mobile phones with cameras.
Initial seizure of erotic materials focused on imagery depicting semi-nude women, most of which were found in the garment industry.
“Next we targeted obscene newspaper advertisements and pictures and advised the editors about them. It turned out to be a success,” Balachandra boasted to the Mirror. “But we have a problem with the electronic media,” he confessed,” which will still continues to run such contents because the laws are not strong enough to tackle them.”
