Is Traffic Rising After Google’s Panda 4.2 Update?
SAN DIEGO – Though no one seems able to explain the phenomenon — or even confirm the rumor — at least one traffic network is reporting a rise in traffic numbers following Google’s recent Panda 4.2 update.
Google began what the search giant calls a “slow rollout” of the new algorithm July 18. Panda 4.2 is the 28th official update of the platform since its debut in February 2011 and the first since the much-reviled appearance of Panda 4.1 in September 2014.
Panda 4.1 played havoc with adult industry websites, shoving their ranking in search engine results to well off the first page and sending traffic into a tailspin. The hardest hit were sites deemed “thin” — those without much written content or populated mostly with images and advertising.
On Thursday, traffic network TrafficHaus indicated it has seen positive effects in the two weeks since Panda 4.2 bowed. Traffic numbers have improved for most of the company’s adult industry publishers, Sales Director Jake Gonzalez said.
“We’re happy to see the new Panda update has been beneficial to our publishers’ business,” he said. “While it will be a slow roll-out — Google estimates several months before seeing noticeable results — we’re confident the impact will remain positive.
“The key to keeping up with these evolving algorithms is to make sure sites are mobile-optimized and comprehensive in their content,” Gonzalez continued. “‘High-quality sites survive updates like this.”
