Is 3D Porn the Next Wave?
LAS VEGAS, NV — Not every new development aimed at the adult entertainment industry was on display at AVN’s Adult Entertainment Expo over the weekend. At least one occupied exhibit-floor space at the nearby Consumer Electronics Show.Glacier Media Systems’ IceBerg 3D entertainment system “offers the avid entertainment lover and 3D gamer a component-styled case and plenty of storage to satisfy all your gaming and digital content needs,” according to the company’s marketing materials.
According to gadget website T3.com, the IceBerg is all about watching porn.
“If your regular adult entertainment just isn’t doing it for you anymore and even hi-def smut isn’t enough, then technology’s got the answer,” T3’s Joe Svetlik wrote as the opening to a recent review of the system. “What you want is this new media centre PC that will convert any porn DVD into 3D… porn,”
With Nvidia graphics, RealTek High Definition sound, quad-core processing and a 1.5-terabyte hard drive, the IceBerg is a powerhouse that out of the box is ready to transform not only a user’s online and gaming experiences, but also his TV-watching habits: the system is compatible with 3D-ready TVs and is crammed with software to facilitate New Age-style viewing of classic cinema. Even better: The conversion process reportedly is quick and automatic, leaving the user nothing more to do than slip on his 3D glasses, pop in a DVD and enjoy.
As might be expected, Svetlik noted, “movies filmed in stereoscopic 3D look best, as the camera has two lenses that act like human eyes, giving greater depth perception.”
But “…the porn industry is going nuts for [the IceBerg] right now, and that’s traditionally where all the innovation is,” Svetlik wrote. “Multi-angle DVDs came about due to porn, after all.”
Glacier (GlacierMediaSystems.com) isn’t shy about promoting itself as “the ultimate porn experience,” either.
“Once filmmakers get the hang of it, feet will be hanging out of the screen and you’ll be dodging the money shot,” Glacier President Tony Ross told TechRadar.com.
Glacier’s top-of-the-line IceBerg sells for about $1,899.
