Invasion of the Sex Robots at AEE 2010
YNOT – The next generation in interactive robotic companions — according to their developer, the first “specially engineered to completely gratify their owners and fully equipped to carry a conversation or have an intimate encounter” — are expected to make an appearance at AVN’s Adult Entertainment Expo Jan. 7-10 in Las Vegas.Lincoln Park, NJ-based TrueCompanion’s Roxxxy True and Rocky True, respectively female and male sex robots, combine the latest in artificial intelligence programming with life-size, anatomically correct bodies. Roxxxy will debut at AEE; Rocky isn’t quite ready for primetime yet, TrueCompanion founder Douglas Hines indicated.
Hines began his odyssey in sexual robotics in 1993 while he was a researcher with Bell Labs. His first robotic companion, Trudy, was less than user-friendly, he noted, but he and what became the TrueCompanion team learned quite a bit during her development.
“The sex doll industry was effective at creating very expensive and somewhat realistic dolls, but many people were telling us it was like their dolls were ‘catatonic;’ like they were injured and unable to speak and interact,” Hines notes on the company’s website. “They wanted to have their dolls become interactive and be their friends.
“Designing a robot sex doll involves multiple disciplines,” he added. “We now have many electrical engineers, computer science experts, artists, beauty and makeup professionals, as well as robotic engineers, all working together to provide you with your most lifelike sex robot which can interact as well as ‘play’ with you.”
According to promo material, the robots can talk, listen, carry on conversations, feel when they are touched, touch their humans in erotic ways and even approximate emotions like “friendship” and “love.” The robots learn their humans’ names, likes and dislikes.
They also are capable of experiencing orgasms.
