Interview with TheLegacy of Webmaster Paradise
I recently caught up with Robert “TheLegacy” Warren from WebmasterParadise for a little one-on-one about life, the universe and everything.SexyScribe: You’re the Director of Sales and Marketing for WebmasterParadise.. What’s a typical day like for you?
TheLegacy: After waking up in a pool of sweat around 9am I pull myself towards my desk and turn on the computer – generally the 5 minutes it takes to load is when I usually have my time out to cry and weep at what I have become. My first action is to turn down the speakers that were cranked up the night before around 2am before I went to bed – as the silence is broken by the U-Oh’s of ICQ’s hitting my monitor. After responding, emails are the dreaded daily occurrence as I sift through what is useless vs. what can benefit my clients today. This small act of playing God with others and their spam gives me the pick me up I need to clear my throat and hit the phones after I spent a part of the morning reading. READ READ READ is the mantra for any successful person within the adult industry. Learn of its tactics and growth strategies – anything that you can teach yourself since there is no university or college degree listed as NetPorn 101. We are always in school.
I stop about 15 minutes for lunch and an hour for dinner throughout the day in an attempt to get “just one more” order. I have been told I have set records in sales, but I simply cant speak to my boss much less those asking for advice if I haven’t first honestly given 100% daily from helping smaller webmasters learn about everything from design to TGP’s / Traffic trading then catch up on my peers offering encouragement. There are some evenings where I curl up with a book, exercise in the gym the weekend is still keeping the computer on for sign ups – but it is filled with attempts to remove myself from the digital world – yet I am still in constant contact or thinking about how I can improve myself and the company next week.
Its networking, simply as that. Working in the adult industry sucks any life you had once considered normal 9 – 5 workday then party during the evening. Your on and online almost 16 hours a day – morning handling UK, afternoon and evening handling each coast because somewhere in the world any time its 3pm and someone wants to buy content and if your not there – they move on.
I lean on trusted friends such as sweetums who’s my rock, (speaking of) RocHard, Twinkley, Don Mike, Cyndalie the list goes on and on. I learned from the best… YNOTBob and LAJ whose work ethic and networking skills have rubbed off onto me in addition to their talent of creating interest. I simply don’t go to work every morning and work until the wee hours of the morning… these people are my friends, my family. New webmasters soon become close friends – its a constant growing experience and I love it !!
SS: What’s new at Webmaster Paradise?
TL: When I was hired at webmaster paradise a little under a year ago I made some silly requests as anyone can do during the honeymoon stage of employment. I asked first and foremost – TRUST ME. Those two words carry big weight to an owner who ran over my background with every possible blood and sperm sample to know I had a good reputation. Webmaster Paradise did trust me – and in turn – within the first months we increased traffic 20 times over and its still growing – you can see how that related to sales – a stabilizing force when asking for anything new.
Vegas 2005 the boss flew up from our head office in Hollywood as well as a team from our Costa Rica offices to ask a simple question, “how can we help you?” The call went out that in order to push us beyond any competitors reach is to move Webmaster Paradise to ‘DAILY’ updates on its products. To create a NEW product 365 times a year. This meant a ton of production and a revamping once again of the website. They agreed and within a month we are preparing to launch for the first time DAILY MOVIE UPDATES on all plug-in content products.
If anyone thought they had an idea of who Webmaster Paradise was before 2005, think again – its a whole new company that hasn’t forgotten its routes. We have kept the prices firm since 1998 and now offer more support to new and smaller websites – not just in pricing – but hands on assistance to help them succeed. My philosophy is simply, “if you succeed – I succeed”. I don’t want a client who is going to sign up then go out of business in 6 months because they didn’t know the techniques of success that Webmaster Paradise is now willing to help with.
SS: Does your marketing philosophy differ for webmasters and surfers?
TL: I think there are a lot of similarities, but major differences. Simply put
T = Truth, be truthful about yourself and what your company is and has to offer
R = Respect the webmaster and their situation – even a newbie
U = Understanding their needs, don’t sell them on what they don’t need. Listen with two ears an speak with one mouth. Meet their needs.
S = Sincerity is a key factor. People can sense a fake individual. I sincerely do offer help because I know it has been offered to me many times.
T = Time is both quality & quantity. You simply have to put it in to succeed whether it be your personal grow or assisting a webmaster.
Those add up to TRUST. Webmasters work with me and sign up not simply because they like the product, they also know that I keep my word and do help them out as much as I can if they ask… and sometimes if they don’t. Being in this industry for years you can’t burn bridges – and when a webmaster is contemplating spending money or traffic on you – it is a job interview every time for me.
SS: You’ve been in the industry for how long?
TL: 9 wonderful blissful years – or 3 very long drunken days – not sure right now
SS: What got you started?
TL: I was actually working in the educational market developing CD roms and websites for colleges and universities across Canada to show highschoolers what’s ahead of them and how to make the right decision for them. I honestly felt inside that there was something more for me, I answered an ad for a director of marketing and sales and walked into Python Communications for the first time and got the job and haven’t looked back.
SS: What’s the best thing about your job?
TL: I have been in it for so long, that now – its the people I work with. There are companies that offer me positions, but I sincerely do like Webmaster Paradise which allows me the freedom to do what I have been trained and learned to do for success. Yet, when it comes down to it – I am bonded to the network of friends I have – they are family. We learn of each other’s strengths and weaknesses, help each other out and grow together. You need to in order to survive. A strong network or web is essential and takes years to form – yet only a few moments to tear apart if you get too greedy or shave.
SS: What’s your favorite part of the industry? your least favorite?
TL: My favorites are the icq or telephone conversations between those I love on icq – my net family. It is then running off to conventions to meet them and the feeling of having a successful sales streak going. You take the advice of those around you and see your bottom line grow. Nothing more enjoyable than looking in the mirror and saying, ” a job well done “
What I don’t enjoy in the industry is everything opposed to the unity and network. There are those out there who simply would walk over anyone to get what they want – not caring for another’s feelings. That simply doesn’t work with me. False accusations, greed, prejudice and a feeling of being someone you’re not always annoys me to a point. I try to avoid people like that.
SS: What do you do to live by your chosen nickname: TheLegacy ?
TL: Others have selflessly given of their time and wisdom to help me out – that is their legacy to me. In turn – I share that in a supportive way to those I find offering advice and strategies to those who ask in improving themselves and their companies. I would hope that those who know me will say that they were left better off after meeting / talking to me than before. I have a very thankful heart to everyone and express it in helping and giving myself to those who need help as I did.
SS: What’s the story with the Seminary? Why did you leave? Do you live with the shadow of a doubt that you’ll end up burning in fire and brimstone because you went from being a man of God to a man of Smut?
TL: This seems to fascinate a lot of people. I was in the seminary for 7 years and am 1/2 year away from my Masters of Psychology, Philosophy and Comparative Religions. Yes I was a pastor and was actually on tour singing for a while. I left when my mind opened up to ideas and beliefs that I no longer could justify to myself that organized religion has it flaws. E.g. To stand up in a pulpit and preach that I’m against gays would be something I just couldn’t do anymore. I stated that in the beginning God created man, and later man decided to return the favor. Religion is NOT God. It was created as man’s attempt to worship whatever box they wanted to put their God in. I had a different view of what I felt God was to me that I haven’t found yet in an organized religion.
I personally don’t see myself burning in fire and brimstone at all. I wake up every morning with full knowledge of all the biblical text from Greek to Hebrew and 44 years of understanding of who God is, and I can look in the mirror and smile. Am I any worse off than someone who manufacturers cigarettes that kill? Or alcohol that may lead to drunk driving? God doesn’t work on that premise. Everyone of us are imperfect – even some preachers. Anything created out there can be used in an evil way… as can porn. I have no problem working with legal content – considering that many years ago famous painters use to do nudes – are they being burned at the stake? God’s message is love – I think I continue that legacy on.
SS: If you weren’t doing what you’re doing now, What other job/career/profession would you like to attempt?
TL: I would likely be helping those less fortunate than myself or be part of a counselling practise. Personally I have seen the worst in man and get weary at times walking into malls and hearing all the crap said back and forth. The negativity tires me out – so child counselling would be honorable.
SS: You contributed the occasional article to YNOT News (when we were running the weekly format) which I thoroughly enjoyed reading. Have you been writing a long time? What else have you written?
TL: I thoroughly enjoy the honor given to me by YNOT not just in being a moderator, but also letting me verbally masturbate my thoughts over in their News section. There is a certain peace of mind I get seeing others laugh or learn something new from something that is created by the word. In school I wrote plays – dramas and comedy’s. Nothing like hiding in the background hearing the audience of 1000’s breaking into tears laughing or get smacked upside the head with a thought of how to be a better person. Weekly I used to write sermons, but starting as a teen I have been writing for newspapers, poetry, small books, plays to mainstream manuals and even had a chance to be a writer for a television station creating a mini-series.
The proper chosen word(s) can change a person’s perspective in – and path of life. That’s an awesome responsibility and I feel is what will be judged more in us than what we happen to decide as a means of income by working in Smut.
