Interview with Photographer Jay Allan
I met Jay a few years back in Los Angeles when he was photographing Trisha Uptown for Penthouse. My initial impression was, “Wow, he is young to be so high up in the game.” But I think his youth is his advantage; he has an eye for what the “now” generation of consumers wants to see. He is simply a genius with a camera. I did not fully appreciate that genius until I got to see him photograph Trisha for her toy line back in January, but it was then that I realized: to watch him work was to see magic right before your eyes.
Jay has this boyish “kid in a candy store” smile that he gets when photographing some of these top girls, but not for the reason that most would think. It’s not because he is looking daily at some of the most beautiful women in the world, no not at all; that smile appears only when he knows he has created something perfect, something that our imaginations cannot see even though I was standing right next to him. You see it only when it is printed, and it takes your breath away. Now Jay is making his art available to adult webmasters – webmasters who want only the best. I was finally able to pin Jay down to get the details of this exciting venture and to share it with all of you.
JL: Jay, when I look at your work, I see much more than hardcore shots. I see a fantasy come out in its most magical and beautiful form. Did you originally come from an art background, and what is it in you that makes such beauty possible? I am sure you have had girls that are not easy to photograph, but yet you still get the most incredible shots; a side of these girls that they did not even know was possible. What is your thought process in a shoot and how do you do this?
JA: The shoots really start a week before I step behind the camera. I never book a girl and shoot her right away because I like to paint the pictures in my head before the day of shooting. Matching the sets and the wardrobe are all critical, and I need to do that before I shoot so I can concentrate on making the images on set. I do have an art background and I spent five years in a very art-oriented film school in Santa Barbara.
JL: You are now one of the industry’s top photographers; everyone wants to be shot by you. Does that intimidate you at all, especially at such a young age?
JA: No, it does not intimidate me at all. I think it really works to my advantage as I am able to pick the girls I like to work with and who are, in my opinion, the hottest and freshest girls in the business. Once you’ve shot girls like Jenna Jameson and a lot of the top contract girls, you really get past the whole “fame thing.” These are all just girls who want to look beautiful. I always chose girls who are the most fun and easy to shoot over the girls who are prima donnas. Even when they are smokin’ hot.
JL: Your work is your art and your pride; I know you are very protective on how it is used and seen. What made you decide about sharing this content and selling it?
JA: I have a lot of material and subsequently a lot of duplicate sets on some of the best girls that I shot multiple times for magazines. None of this material has ever seen the net so I figured it was really not doing me any good sitting in file cabinets. Also, most of my edits are around 125 images and the magazines only use about 15 shots – so really this is all new stuff. I am saving a few key sets for my own use but really I just want to get it all out there. There is no way that I can reach the breadth of consumers on my own so I think sharing the content with webmasters is the best approach.
JL: Can you tell us about what is being offered and how this project got started? Where can webmasters go to view and purchase content? What do you hope to see arise from this newest venture?
JA: We are starting out with a 50 set package that is really a cross section of all I have to offer. It is over 6000 images – all scanned at 1280x, and all hot girls. We have sets on girls like Violet Blue, Sunny Leone, Jassie, etcetera. That’s all I shoot. It includes a lot of “single girl” glamour stuff as well as “young girl” material and boy/girl sets. The site URL is www.JayAllanContent.com and you can see samples of all 50 sets there. We only have the package available right now, but my staff is busy scanning more sets that we will offer a la carte in the next couple months.
JL: I always wanted to know this; what was your very first adult-related photo shoot like, and do you remember whom it was with?
JA: Well, my first shoots were home movies! But my first published shoots were under the a.k.a. Scott Evans, and they were while I worked for Stephen Hicks. A lot of my early shoots were for Club Magazine and they were a lot simpler than my recent stuff. My favorite early shoot was with Sara St. James, whom I love, and my very first shoot was with a Pet named Heidi Lynn.
JL: Some of your work is definitely art gallery quality. Do you have any works featured anywhere, and is this also something you’d like to do?
JA: Some of my fine art work is up on www.JayAllan.com and we will probably have a new gallery site soon. I am working with the art gallery that represents pin-up artist Olivia and hopefully I will have a show next year. Have a look at www.livinthelife.com as well. There are some fun pictures there.
