Nubian X originally started out as a news website focused specifically on black adult performers and is continually expanding. In addition to his Web and graphic design background, Flexx also hosts his own radio show “Ebony Nights” with Sierra on KSEXRadio.com every Monday evening.
YNOT: Hey Flexx, great to have you with us this week! Please introduce yourself to everyone…
Flexx: I go by many names in all of my travels, but in this crazy world of adult entertainment I am called Flexx, or Flexx Aeon to be specific (people always hear my name and think I’m Flex Luger). I am the owner of Nubian X.
YNOT: How long have you been around?
Flexx: I’ve been in the industry a little over a year now.
YNOT: Tell us about Nubian X.
Flexx: Nubian X is a media company that caters to ebony erotica and the fans of it. It started as a news site, and has been expanding from there. Now we’re getting into a lot more things that should help shine more light on ebony erotica.
YNOT: My guess is that there is a shortage of websites that focus on ebony erotica specifically?
Flexx: No one really does what we do. I mean of course there are a ton of news sites out there. But hardly any of them try and focus on black porn the way that we do. NubianX.com is the only news site out there that focuses solely on black performers, their films, and the companies that make them.
YNOT: You are from L.A. originally… tell us about your past and growing up there.
Flexx: Well, I was born in L.A. County and spent pretty much all of my childhood in Compton, California. Hey, don’t frown at that! Haha. I was raised in a good family though, with parents who cared about me and my siblings (I’m the oldest of three). I attended college for a few years, but they weren’t quite offering curriculum for a degree in graphic and Web design, since the Internet was still very new at that point back then, so I dropped out and started seeking work in that field.
YNOT: How did you end up in the adult Internet?
Flexx: First time I got into adult Internet was when I worked for Leisure Time Entertainment. They were expanding their website department. This was back before the market got too saturated. I wasn’t there for very long – got a way better job offer. But we all remember how the Web market’s ass fell out, so the company I worked for was dropping people like flies. Anyhow, I was mainly a freelancer at this point. And when you have that much time alone, at home, with the Internet… running into some porn is imminent! Cruising porn sites was just something I did during breaks between my freelance work. Then I started getting interested in the behind-the-scenes world of porn. I noticed that it was REALLY difficult for me to find information on the girls that were my favorite. Janet Jacme, Monique and Lil’ Asss, to name a few. It didn’t take long before I decided I would have to do it my damn self.
YNOT: Sometimes, that’s just what you have to do! Any problems explaining your decision to your family?
Flexx: My siblings are kinda indifferent about it. But the older generation – parents, uncles, aunts – they hate it. They don’t necessarily hate me, but they aren’t thrilled about my line of work. Shit, the way they act, you’d think I was Lexington Steele. I’m like “Mom, I just make websites!”
YNOT: Any websites out there particularly helpful in getting you going as an adult Webmaster?
Flexx: YNOT is my God! Always a nice tool for any adult Webmaster! Ebony Porn Stars Online helped my website/company a lot. It’s a database of ebony and other ethnic porn stars, with bios, Web and email addresses, etc. It was of great assistance when I was looking for contact information on girls to interview or websites to review.
YNOT: Very cool. So… got any embarrassing KSEXRadio stories? As a co-host on your radio show “Ebony Nights,” I’m sure there must be plenty!
Flexx: It’s not a secret, but it’s still fucking embarrassing. I lost a bet to Wankus (host of “The Wanker Show”) and had to wear this goddamn teddy on my show. It sucked! The damn thing was cutting into my ass the whole hour! And of course, there had to be pictures. That thing still haunts me.
YNOT: I remember that! Wankus made sure to point out those shots to me… I couldn’t stop laughing at how ridiculous you looked! Gotta love Wankus though…
Switching gears here, any hurdles you’ve had to overcome in your sector of the business? In my opinion, racism and sexism online are still a problem unfortunately…
Flexx: What pisses me off more than anything is not the fact that racism in the adult industry exists, but the fact that no one wants to do anything about it. It’s right in our fucking faces sometimes, and we just continue on saying, “that’s just the way it is.” Bullshit.
YNOT: I’d actually really like to sit down and talk with you in depth about that sometime soon. That would be a series of articles in and of itself.
What do you do for fun?
Flexx: Video games. Especially RPG’s! I haven’t had time to play any lately because I’ve been so busy with life and work. But those things really suck me in. You ever play that game Everquest? Jeez, man, that thing had me like a base head! I had to put myself through a fuckin’ Everquest rehab just to keep from playing.
YNOT: Hahahaha! I haven’t played that one before, but I hear ya when it comes to game addiction!
If there was no adult Internet what would you be doing for work?
Flexx: I’d still be on the Internet, probably making websites for locksmiths or vitamin companies. Or maybe I’d be working for some design firm. Regardless, I’d still be doing graphic and Web design. I love it too much. But I love sex too, so I guess if there was no adult Internet, I’d be inventing it!
YNOT: Got any newbie advice?
Flexx: Newbies in general – If your job involves interacting with talent, learn to play it cool. I know the chicks are hot, but if you come off like a stalker, it’ll be hard to get far.
Newbie Webmasters – Just because it’s an adult website doesn’t give it the excuse to look like crap. It’s getting better out there, but we really need to put a little pride in the work if we expect people to spend their hard earned money.
Everyone – Support your ebony erotica!
YNOT: Anything coming up from you that we should be on the lookout for?
Flexx: We’re starting a marketing division of Nubian X that will offer services like Web promotion, increasing traffic, managing mailing lists, press releases, and more cool opportunities. We’re mainly looking for clients that feature ebony erotica, but anyone that might be interested in our services is welcome to contact me.
Also, look for me to get a little more into the production end, and launching my own pay sites… maybe even directing some films. That’s all I can say right now. Don’t want to give away too much!
YNOT: Thanks for a great interview Flexx.
