Interview: The Rob & Slim Show – Coming Back for Round 2!
Do you guys remember The Rob and Slim Show?
If you don’t you need to check it out!
An iconic podcast that ran for eight years of fun and mayhem it still has some of the best interviews in the adult industry around and has been sorely missed.
But guess what… there’s rumblings that it’s getting relaunched in the fall!
Instead of pushing through burn out, which a lot of creators do – to the detriment of themselves and the legacy of the great work they’ve done before – the hosts took time off to reassess, recuperate, and get the joy back.
Get yourself prepped for the return of The Rob & Slim Show in this interview with co-host Rob. And if you haven’t listened to their older episodes, check out the links at the bottom of the article to catch up!
What is your background, and what was the impetus for the podcast?
I worked in radio in the early 2000’s starting in promotions and quickly moved to an on-air shift with a co-host. In addition, I was a weekly guest on the station’s morning show. After being sabotaged internally and being unfairly fired over it, I left the industry.
But… I always wanted to go back, and I wanted to do more of a talk thing since I had always loved shows like Howard Stern, Opie and Anthony, and Ron and Fez… unfortunately most of the stations in this area were just music, so I never did. Years later when podcasting was first starting, I had a bunch of friends tell me they wanted to do one with me, but when it was time to get together to figure things out, they’d always bail.
Then, one day out of the blue, a co-worker of mine (Slim) told me he started a podcast show with his cousin, who ended up not working out. We rebranded the show, improved it along the way and by about Season 3 we hit a groove and figured out a formula.
I did all the planning, found all the content we covered, wrote our weekly skits, booked and researched guests, and Slim did all the recording, editing, and uploading, as well as being a kick ass co-host for 8 seasons.
What is it about the adult industry that made you want to support and hold up the creators?
Our first interviews with people in the adult industry were phone sex operators who primarily worked on NiteFlirt. They were not only amazing and fun to talk to, but really informative on a lot of kinks and fetishes.
During the years that followed, we had them back on and I began reaching out to adult film stars as well. They are definitely some of the greatest people we talked to, and we had most of them on multiple times.
What are some of the most eye-opening things you learned from adult stars and businesses?
That whenever you see a guy wearing a condom in porn, that company doesn’t test their actors for diseases, and probably just some of the kinks that exist like pay pigs and the quicksand fetish.
Are there any behind the scenes funny things that happened on set with those in the adult space that didn’t make it into the show?
We always do our show live, so anything that happens during the interview is recorded, but in our last interview with the lovely Vivianne DeSilva, she showed us her tits live which of course we had to blur out for the YouTube interview.
You have a nice following – what is the secret to your marketing?
When we first started, I would just go on follow sprees on Twitter every week and anytime someone creative followed me back, I would ask them if they’d do a 25-minute live interview with us.
Over the years, I connected with so many amazing people that they would pitch or refer guests to me. In addition, I would still reach out to people either directly or through their management. It was all about persevering – trust me, for all the amazing people and interviews we’ve done, there are multitudes who didn’t reply or said they couldn’t or wouldn’t, which you can’t let bother you.
What are your goals for the upcoming The Rob & Slim Show?
In our first few years, Slim and myself tried and succeeded at getting a few sponsors. When we saw how hard it was to do along with monetizing, we just decided to do the show for fun. Because we did it for fun, we never had anyone telling us what we could say or do and that kept it entertaining for us. We’ll continue doing it for fun and I’m excited to bring it back!
The Rob and Slim Show will have more great interviews, segments, skits, and of course new commentary and songs by everyone’s favorite internet rapper “The Driz!”
