Indonesian ISP Blocks Nearly 1 Million Porn Sites
YNOT – In response to the government’s campaign to defeat online pornography during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, Indonesian telecommunications giant Telkomsel claims to have blocked 800,000 adult entertainment websites — and the company promises to uncover and block more.On Thursday, Telkomsel President Sarwoto Atmosutarno told the media his company’s gateway employs a blacklist that automatically denies consumers access to the 800,000 sites so far identified as pornographic. Whether they attempt to access a site via a desktop computer, laptop or mobile device, consumers are presented with a warning instead.
“Access is denied due to security policy enforcement,” the warning reads.
“The blockage is performed in stages and will affect all gadgets that have Telkomsel’s internet access,” Sarwoto told Kompas.com.
