Imitation, the Sincerest Form of Self-flattery
By Peter Berton
BRADENTON, Fla. – Ah, the evolutionary trajectory of the dildo: First came the generic realistic model, followed by toys cast from the mighty members of honest-to-goodness porn stars. Now every man can present himself as God’s gift to potential partners by creating a 3D impression of his proudest possession.
Rick Daniels is part of the creative team that devised Create-a-Mate, a do-it-yourself dildo-manufacturing kit. According to the developers, the process is easy and idiot-proof. YNOT.com was intrigued.
YNOT: How does this thing work?
Rick Daniels: Our product includes a plastic tube that is filled by both your male member and alginate, a molding material used to get the “print” of the penis you intend to copy. Alginate is made up of food-grade material such as alginic acid, which is an organic polymer derived from the stems of seaweed. In about three to five minutes, the water-and-powder mixture sets and becomes a flexible solid similar to rubber.
Is it easy for men to remain … uh … “at attention” during the molding process?
Because the mixture is warm and tightens when setting, it brings a measure of joy to the person being cast and makes it very easy to keep up maximum size during the process.
Some even order extra re-fills of our alginate powder bags for a little extra fun.
Where did you get the idea to create a mold-your-own-penis system?
Company founder Andrew Pipitone and I came up with the idea when we were in high school. Dating was expensive, and we thought it would be cool to cut through the bull, whip it out and say, “Well, what do you think?”
To do that for real really wasn’t an option. [We came to the conclusion that] a casting of the tools we were so proud of was what we needed.
That was in the 1980s. It wasn’t till the ’90s that technology advanced enough to make an in-home casting system.
How do customers react the first time they immortalize their member?
The response to our product to date has been amazing. In the first year, thanks to the internet, we sent our penis casting systems all around the world. We maintain great relationships will our customers, some from the very first days of business.
What becomes of all those penis copies?
We don’t care, as long as [the customers] keep coming back — and they do.
We sell to the Hollywood scene as well as the average Joe. On our website, you can see a clip of Carmen Electra on Sharon Osborne’s TV show with a kit that was gifted to her. An adult film starring Nicole Moore bears the name of our product.
Do you intend to develop kits for molding other body parts?
We are in the creative process right now to do that very thing. You can depend on us to follow up with some very interesting new options in the future. We keep everyone posted on our website and all social media as to new item release dates.
