ICM Launches Adult Performer Program
YNOT – ICM Registry, the company overseeing the dot-xxx top level domain has launched a new program designed to help porn stars protect their stage names. The “.XXX Domain Names for Adult Performers” program will assist performing professionals in the adult entertainment industry in obtaining the dot-xxx domain corresponding to their stage names instead of allowing cybersquatters and impersonators to abuse registrations.
“Without adult performers there would be no adult entertainment industry,” said ICM Chief Executive Officer Stuart Lawley. “We want to show our appreciation by proactively reserving a select group of dot-xxx domain names for adult performers. There are too many instances of performers’ domain names being ‘cybersquatted.’ We created the adult performer program to prevent that in dot-xxx.”
Among the first adult entertainment stars to secure dot-xxx domains were Stormy Daniels and Nina Mercedez. Both woman also signed contracts to be ICM Registry spokesmodels.
“I am looking forward to working with dot-xxx,” Daniels said. “This is a great opportunity for me, and I am excited to be a part of all the big things dot-xxx has planned in the future.”
In tweets to her fans, Daniels has praised ICM for doing the “responsible thing” by removing adult performers’ names from the list of available sites in order to ensure “the domain names go to their rightful owners.”
Mercedez said she believes ICM and dot-xxx ultimately will benefit the adult industry.
“Before I signed on, I did my research about dot-xxx,” she said. “I learned that it’s going to be good for the adult entertainment industry and good for the fans, so naturally I wanted to be involved.”
Other adult stars, including Nikki Delano, Katie K, Sophia Santi, Kiara Mia, Alexis Ford, Ron Jeremy and others have signed on to the program, as well. Many of them joined ICM representatives at the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. conference taking place through Wednesday in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. On Monday, Lawley told YNOT a number of the models will be appearing in television and online advertisements set to begin filming later this month in New York. The spots are expected to begin airing in early November.
“We are delighted to announce the contracts with Stormy and Nina,” ICM Sales Director Vaughn Liley said. “Everyone at dot-xxx is thrilled about the prospect of working with two of the industry’s leading stars.”
Although porn star names are considered “premium” URLs, Liley said ICM does not offer them at premium prices. The only cost to the performers for the domain names is what their registrar of choice charges for registration. More information about the adult performer program may be found here.
