How to Censor Material Effectively:

What I’ll show you will make censoring easier and your pics sexier, therefore making your business make more cash. I’ll give you the exact procedure in a moment, but first, some background. (If you’d like to skip right to the how-to, click here)
Ancient History
In 1\’\’7, my first job with Red Mark Productions, Inc. was to design between 50 and 70 free sites. With a small platoon of low-quality amateur content, I cranked on now-defunct classics such as analmadness.com and pumptherump.com
Like most newbies to the adult internet, I filled my project sites-in-development with explicit photos. We were like everyone else at the time, firmly believing in the power of extraordinarily hardcore material. People still believed then in the “show hardcore, and they will come” theory for building traffic. (Maybe that myth was true in 1\’\’4, but it sure wasn’t true in ‘\’7, and isn’t true today.)
Then, Red Mark Productions retained expert legal counsel for some advice on our marketing strategies. A few hours after reviewing our free sites, there was a swift and severe meeting. It came down from on-high, and has been the gospel ever since: “We must censor all hardcore material in a “free” environment.”
A Case for Staying Out of Court
If you’re not censoring hardcore material, you’re simply taking a risk you probably don’t need to take. There’s great debate surrounding things like soft core, and “artistic” nude content, but when it comes to the meat and potatoes of online porn (hardcore), you should be censoring your free site and tour material.
Let’s face it: You see kids everyday. Do you really feel comfortable with the idea of an 8 year-old boy wandering onto your recent gooey design of cumblaster.com? Most of you will personally feel it’s inappropriate (I know I do), but if for some reason that thought doesn’t bother you, remember: it’s bothering someone at the Justice Department right now.
“But I’m an advocate for free speech! The Internet is a forum for the exchange of free information!” Well, the fact is, most of you don’t design adult sites because you’re fighting for free speech. You’re fighting for your wallet. You’re trying to be a businessman (or businesswoman… hopefully the entrepreneurs of fine establishments like Purve.com and PersianKitty.com won’t come down on me too hard.)
At the end of the day, businessmen are about bottom line profit, not political ideology. They’re very aware of the playing field. Businessmen don’t care about what “should be,” they care about what the actual circumstances are. Real-world circumstances influence their bank account.
Here are the circumstances: The Internet is a wide open place with little regulation, making it a great conduit for anything you like, (especially pornography.) People in the United States publicly denounce porn and privately embrace it. Kids use computers. Many parents today are inherently lazy when it comes to managing their kids, and know that when things get out of line, The Media™ will give Uncle Sam a phone call, and Uncle Sam will step in and take care of things. Uncle Sam does not take care of problems elegantly, he is a big proponent of excessive force.
Point blank: Clean it up yourself, or wait for Federal Prosecutors to clean it up for you. (Hint: the former is a lot easier on your delicate posterior. Can you say cell mate?)
