Housekeeper: Keeping the Glam in Trans-Glam
By Peter Berton
NEW YORK – There are trashy T-girl sites, and there is Trans-Glam.com. In marked contrast to operations that promote T-girls as oddities one step below circus freaks, Trans-Glam takes a reverent approach to the ladies and their material, presenting the peformers in a glamorous and respectful — yet no less hot — spotlight.
That’s hardly surprising to those who’ve had the pleasure of encountering the webmaster, Housekeeper. A long-time member of YNOT.com’s forums, he’s known for his sense of humor, genuine concern for other members and willingness to help newbies.
At Trans-Glam, Housekeeper has created a highly detailed, well-informed portal about all things T-girl. Clearly he knows his subjects very well — which is why YNOT decided to pay him a call.
YNOT.com: What led you to admire T-girls and consequently choose the path you’ve pursued?
Housekeeper: I’m from the West Village in Manhattan, New York City, a significant location with respect to the sexual revolution, particularly the gay, lesbian and transgendered community.
I was a long time consumer of pornography, magazines, videos, peep-shows, and live sex shows. One day in 1988, I happened into a peep show on 42nd Street in Times Square. That was my first opportunity to see a transsexual unclothed, and from that point on I was hooked. I soon started to frequent nightclubs where transsexuals hung out, which led to dating, and then before I knew it, here was the internet.
My background is in art, photography, design and marketing. It was through my association with T-girl Jessica Host — who is from Bronx, NY — that I transitioned from consumer to online marketer. Trans-Glam Productions was born in 2005.
The idea behind Trans-Glam is to showcase local T-girls from New York as well as a select group of porn stars and glamour girls. I was learning graphic design throughout those years as well as re-developing my love for photography. It’s been a wonderful experience throughout the years, and I owe a great deal of gratitude to my friends from YNOT.
Trans-Glam isn’t your first T-girl website, is it?
My first website was JessicasDiary.com, born in 2005 as a solo shemale site built for Jessica Host. Transsexual Glamour, or Trans-Glam, followed shortly thereafter.
Jessica had appeared in a handful of scenes across several existing shemale sites, as well as starring role in Joey Silvera’s Shemale Road Trip #7. She was already a dynamic sex performer with a very alluring appeal after having first appeared on the web in 2003.
Jessica was starting her transition during those years, and we felt she could take her career to the next level through my ability to produce and market her. She did. She was very professional, and we had a strong chemistry as far as working together. I still consider the product I created with her some of my best work, and I would like to think some of her best, as well.
I currently run a blog network, tube sites, as well as VOD and direct download.
What role do you and your products fulfill in the marketplace?
My current role in today’s marketplace is the same as it was when I started: to represent the transgendered community in a dignified manner and to showcase the beauty of transsexuals in full glamour.
I try to stay current and adapt to the ever-changing formats and delivery methods within online media. I would like my role to be seen as someone who brings quality content to viewers as well as educates those who are new or unfamiliar with our niche.
You are one of those uncommon folks about whom most people speak fondly. Why do you think that is?
That’s a difficult question to answer. I don’t view myself as popular, but I hope to be well liked.
What I’ve always tried to do is bring honesty and keep my work genuine. I have always gotten along very well with the models I’ve worked with. I see that as a positive.
You run pay sites, direct-download sites, legal tubes and content production. That’s quite a diverse product range. Who consumes all this stuff?
Lovers of shemales, plain and simple — also consumers who are curious. It is all of the “straight” population that is interested in trans content. There is also a smaller consumer base consisting of gay women.
There will always be men who are curious, who find they like seeing transsexuals and the sexuality behind it, then invest their time and money in the product.
Many will take it a step further and pursue relationships with t-girls. Most who become attracted to this niche stay. It tends not to be a passing fancy.
What are the challenges in running T-girl sites?
Staying current, constant updating and the competition with respect to traffic. Delivery methods present a challenge for us all. The changing media landscape presents challenges, as well as keeping content safe.
What are your future plans?
I want to continue to work on my craft, continue to improve my skills and, as always, try to broaden people’s scope and perception of shemales and the transgendered niche.
