HotMovies’ ‘Extras’ Benefit Kinsey Archives
YNOT – HotMovies.com has donated a cache of foreign-language adult DVDs to The Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction. The collection adds titles from Japan, Italy, Germany, Turkey and France to the contemporary film holdings at the institute.
As one of the world’s largest video-on-demand providers, HotMovies accumulates hundreds of thousands of adult DVDs for encoding purposes. While the company keeps a hard copy of each of the movies it encodes for the site — more than 150,000 to date — sometimes providers send duplicates. Over HotMovies’ nine years, it has gathered a large volume of duplicates — by some estimates as many as 10,000.
“We wanted to send these DVDs where they would be preserved,” said Director of Business Development James Cybert. “The Kinsey Institute has been contributing to the science of human sexuality for more than 60 years. They have an impressive archive of academic studies, erotic art from all over the world, and now foreign-language erotic DVDs from HotMovies for future study.”
The Kinsey Institute maintains an impressive library of material related to human sexuality. The institute’s erotic art collection includes pieces from all over the world and spans 2,000 years of human history. The Kinsey Library boasts a photography collection of more than 48,000 images.
The HotMovies DVD archive still contains thousands of extra DVDs that need a good home, Cybert said.
“We’re still looking for a non-profit organization to give these to,” he revealed. “If you can suggest a charity that deserves a contribution, contact us with details.”
