Hooters Says Yes to Dubai
ATLANTA, GA — T & A restaurant chain Hooters is set to open three restaurants in Dubai. The chain, which has locations 21 different countries including the United States and inside a Las Vegas casino, was reported by the foreign media to be pulling out of building restaurants in the Middle Eastern country due to public opposition.Harry Grindred, a spokesman for the company, said that plans for the wing joint are still on in the country, known for being home to many Europeans and Americans.
“We’re still planning on it. The problem is that the present contractor can’t give us a good timeline for completion,” Grindred assured.
These will be the first Hooters in the Middle East. While the company has announced plans to develop locations in Israel, the Dubai restaurants will open first. It is not public yet whether Kuwaiti investor Jamal Al Shaheen is still involved with the Dubai plans.
The company is not saying anything about whether the wait staff will be clad in skimpy tank tops and orange short-shorts — not the most loved outfit in the Muslim world. Al Shaheen said he does not anticipate any hostile response over the uniforms, claiming they are no more revealing as what can be seen on Dubai’s beaches.
