Hollywood Publicist And Author Details Living With Sex Addiction
According to the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, nearly 12 million Americans struggle with sex addiction in the United States. That number is likely higher, considering not everyone believes sex addiction is real and not everyone gets treatment and recognizes that they are struggling with it.
Dan Harary, Hollywood publicist and author, was one of those 12 million people. He struggled with a sex addiction for 20 years and now is telling his story in, “CARROTS: TRUE CONFESSIONS OF A HOLLYWOOD SEX ADDICT.”
In an excerpt, we get a glimpse into Dan’s life, his struggles and his thoughts about his addiction.
As an adult, I came to realize that I’d never properly bonded with the first major female in my life. Without question, I understand that this early childhood situation has played a significant role in my pursuit of “Carrots” – desirable women who’ve crossed my path yet who remain just out of reach. Sociologists have long known that it’s critically important for human babies, as well as numerous animals, including ducks, to either quickly bond (“imprint”) with their mothers, or die.
Apparently, my imprinting was skewed (and screwed) right off the bat.
Although I did manage to get married and have relationships with a slew of subsequent girlfriends and lovers, every one of those interactions seemed organically pre-destined to fail. Between the ages of 36 to 56, my endless quest to find true love morphed, instead, into an overwhelming sex addiction. When I realized my little “hobby” had cost me well over a few hundred thousand dollars, I sought specialized therapy, and joined Sex Addicts Anonymous. I attended meetings, on and off, for several years.
While trying to piece together the puzzle that would explain my handicapped relationships with EVERY SINGLE WOMAN IN MY LIFE (except my daughter,) I realized that, as far back as early childhood, I occasionally felt an “otherworldly” influence within my midst – one which I believe has played a role in my peculiar phenomenon. I have pursued paranormal measures in hopes of explaining my odyssey with the opposite sex, having met with a number of renowned psychics, aura healers, and even two shamans. I’ve also experienced regressive hypnosis in this pursuit.
My conclusion? I know it sounds wacky, and I can’t imagine there is any way to ever prove this conclusively, but I am 100% CONVINCED that some kind of “Curse” from a past life has followed me into this one!!
“Carrots: True Confessions of a Hollywood Sex Addict,” is available now on Amazon, as is his first book, “Flirting with Fame: A Hollywood Publicist Recalls 50 Years of Celebrity Close Encounters.”
