Grooby Signs on as Exec Producer of Trans-Led Horror Film “THE GIRLS”
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Transgender adult entertainment leader Grooby has announced its involvement with the upcoming film THE GIRLS, a horror film directed by Krista Michaels, known for her previous works like MANTID and One Monday. The project has now officially launched on Indiegogo.
In the announcement, Grooby said that Michaels, “inspired by a dearth of trans-led films… set out to create a powerful horror movie that highlights the struggles and bigotry faced by the transgender community while showcasing their resilience and strength.”
Leading the cast is Ryder Avalon, who will play a character named “Pixie,” while Alice Wells joins as a producer. The film score will be composed by the BAFTA-nominated Simon Boswell, known for his work on acclaimed movies such as The Crying Game and Santa Sangre.
“There weren’t many trans-led films, in general, much less horror films that we could draw inspiration from, nor characters to aspire to,” Michaels said. “With that in mind, I collaborated with an all-trans-woman writing team, including Brandy Bryant and Jessica D’Amelio, to develop a compelling script.”
Blair Hawkins and Claudia Charriez will serve as co-producers, with Michaels helming the effort from the director’s chair.
“Moving forward, we aim to assemble a talented team of women for the crew to fulfill our dream of delivering an unforgettable movie experience,” Michaels added.
In the announcement, Grooby said THE GIRLS “promises to captivate audiences with its 70s/80s-exploitation-inspired trans horror theme, adding the film “fearlessly tackles violence, nudity, and provocative language, ensuring an authentic portrayal of the challenges faced by trans women.”
“We wanted this film to boldly convey the real-world obstacles we encounter as trans women, and I am incredibly proud of what the team is crafting,” Michaels said.
THE GIRLS will be produced by Retro Raptor, LLC, in partnership with Grooby, KreatureKid, Formative Pictures, and Cordell Productions.
