“Great Sex” Sermons Unwelcome at Elementary School
MELBOURNE, FL — How the New Hope Church came to spread the word about good sex from within the tax funded doors of the Sherwood Elementary school is likely a fascinating story all by itself, but if the school district has anything to say about it, the lessons will stop. Oddly enough, it’s not the fact that a religious institution is using a public building that seems to have rattled the good people at the Brevard Public School District risk-management department. What has them thinking that school should be out forever for the New Hope Church is its “Great Sex for You” worship series.
All would apparently have been well had Pastor Bruce Cadle not actually tried to get the word out to the community about his church’s innovative discussion topic. According to Cadle, the Christian church has been “shamefully silent” on the secularly popular subject.
Mark Langdorf, director of risk management for the school district likely wishes the church hard remained silent, given that a recent mailing by the church has resulted in some kickback from the community.
At issue are the 25,000 fliers that arrived in residents’ mailboxes asking “Is Your Sex Life a Bore,” which some considered to be inappropriate for a building populated by minors five days of the week – none of which are days that the presentations would be made.
While Cadle may or may not have been interested in the intimate details of 25,000+ people’s sex lives, his stated intent was to alert residents to the launch of his three-week program and encourage them to join him in the school auditorium for more insight into the taboo subject.
How long Cadle will be able to spread the word about good sex may well depend upon the terms of his lease contract, which Langdorf assures supporters is being carefully reviewed.
