GoAskAlex to Discuss Disability in Sex Work July 15
Los Angeles, CA — GoAskAlex will be presenting a live discussion panel on “Disability in Sex Work” on behalf of the non-profit support and advocacy group Sex Work Survival Guide. The event will happen later this week on Thursday, July 15 at 7:00 pm ET.
GoAskAlex is an adult model, onscreen performer and sex educator with the distinction of being the industry’s first-ever ostomate since receiving a life-changing surgery in 2019. Per Alex: “My small intestine was diverted out through my abdomen, and I now wear a permanent medical device.” The performer, model and disability-rights activist’s engagement is part of Sex Work Survival Guide’s monthly speaker series wherein industry leaders and their allies share their stories, inspire collective action and encourage their communities to flourish with proper support, understanding and guidance.
“I am so honored and proud to be able to take part in this month’s Sex Work Survival Guide Speaker Series and impart my knowledge as an ostomate with perceived physical limitations that would have kept me from having a career as an entertainer in the past,” said GoAskAlex, who underwent a total abdominal colectomy in 2019 and now functions with an ostomy.
“Those ideas and assumptions about who sex workers are and what we are capable of are going away, thanks to organizations such as this one… the more we educate, motivate and let our voices be heard on local, national and international platforms, the better off we will be as a whole,” GoAskAlex continued.
Tickets to the Speaker Series are free through EventBrite.com, and guests are encouraged to make a donation to further support Sex Work Survival Guide’s cause. This month’s series will benefit Vancouver’s WISH Drop-In Centre Society, which assists women involved with the city’s street-based sex trade.
Sex Work Survival Guide, founded by Katarina Pierce, Tiana “Glittersaurus Rex” and Cendrine Chappuis, was created in order to provide free resources and access to information, help create better opportunities, reduce the risk of on-the-job arrests, injury or death and destigmatize the sex worker community as a whole.
