GoAskAlex Explores Disabilities in Entertainment as Guest Lecturer at UCSB
LOS ANGELES — Model, performer and sex educator GoAskAlex recently hosted a guest lecture at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) for students of professor Constance Penley’s Film & Media Studies class, centering around the subject of sex work and entertainers with disabilities.
The fiery redhead, who launched a successful adult modeling and live cam career in 2014, found herself at a crossroads in 2019 when she got the news that would change her life forever: her ulcerative colitis had become so unbearable that she required an ostomy – her entire colon would be removed, with her small intestine re-routed through her abdomen.
Alex explained that in the three years since her total abdominal colectomy surgery, she has had to make critical adjustments in order to better accommodate her daily life; her job as an adult performer, however, has blossomed, and in 2022 she enjoys a successful and fulfilling career as a popular and respected content creator.
The star spoke of her excitement in recounting her empowering story in front of a classroom: “It was an absolute pleasure speaking to the students at UCSB about my disability and my career in Sex Work,” said Alex.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in their education and share my perspective as an Adult Performer. Conversations like these are paramount to destigmatizing disabilities and the Sex Work industry as a whole.”
