Germany’s CDU Party Expels Member for Appearing in Porn Movie Five Years Ago
BERLIN – Were he a member of an Italian political organization, perhaps Alexander Maassen would still have a job.Unlike its Italian equivalent, however, there are no “Cicciolinas” in the German Bundestag, and – apparently – no room for even the least-known of porn stars in the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party, the party of German Chancellor, Angela Merkel.
According to the Reuters news service, Maassen, who appeared in a pornographic movie approximately five years ago, has been expelled from the Berlin branch of the CDU, an expulsion confirmed by party officials Tuesday.
Maassen was asked to leave the party by Berlin branch chairman Kurt Wansner.
“I wrote to Maassen at the end of last month asking him to resign,” Wasner confirmed to Reuters Tuesday, adding that “for me the matter is now completely closed.”
Wasner contends that Maasssen was dismissed entirely due to his appearance in the film, which Wasner said constitutes behavior which is counter to the CDU’s values.
Maassen, 52, told Reuters he appeared in the film approximately five years ago, appearing in sexually-explicit scenes and acting as narrator of the film Beauty Gang.
Maassen downplayed his role in the film and offered an alternative explanation for his dismissal by the CDU.
A doctor who reportedly joined the CDU at age 14, Maassen asserted that the decision to expel him from the party stemmed from articles he has written that were critical of the CDU’s electoral performance and from the fact that he ran against Wasner in a leadership election.
“Unfortunately I was not quite well that day,” Maassen said of his performance in Beauty Gang, adding “I didn’t quite do ‘it’ – if you know what I mean.”
