Gasp! 1/3 of Americans Bed-Hop
YNOT – In its ongoing quest to uncover the ins and outs of Americans’ sex lives, Adam & Eve popped the most risqué question yet in December’s survey question of the month:
“Have you had sex with more than one person in 24 hours?”
Even the pros at the venerable adult products retailer were a bit surprised by the result. Of the more than 1,000 American adults who responded, 33 percent admitted to sexual rendezvous with multiple partners.
Thirty-three percent of the respondents said they had multiple partners within a 24-hour period. Just over 66 percent of the respondents said they had never had sex with more than one person in a 24-hour window.
Although the percentage may raise a few eyebrows, Adam & Eve’s resident sex expert, Dr. Kat Van Kirk, said the results actually fall in line with data from previous research about cheating and one-night stands.
“Our studies put the numbers for cheating at around 28 percent,” she said. “Based on that figure, and possible multiple-partner [swingers and polyamorous] situations, I’d say 33 percent is accurate.”
There’s also the macho wish-fulfillment factor: Of the survey participants who responded in the affirmative, 81 percent were men.
“We encourage safety in any sexual scenario,” said Adam & Eve Director of Marketing Chad Davis. “However, in situations involving multiple partners or high-risk behavior, safety is mandatory.”
The web-based survey, conducted by an independent third-party survey company on Adam & Eve’s behalf, included responses from Americans age 18 and older.
